E3 Wish List...

So I attended E3 last year and intend on being there again this year. I have been having little nerd fantasies about what games will be showcased there this year. I know of a few for certain that I'm very excited about, but here's my little wish list anyway of games I know are gonna be there and some that I would like to see there.

Duke Nukem Forever - last year 3drealms was a no-show. This year, who knows. Guess I could check their forum, but I'd rather sew my eyelids to my knees. Their 2001 E3 video was amazing. Hopefully they take the time to show something again this year.

Deus Ex 2 - last year they showed nothing more than a room with some people and objects to show how the engine was coming along. I was highly impressed and look forward to seeing something more complete and playable. :)

Doom 3 - after seeing and then playing the alpha levels of this, I have no doubt it'll be an amazing game. It's set to release this year, so they should have a playable demo there this year.

Half-Life 2 - Nobody seems to know if this is even in production or not. I'm hopeful that it is. What would be awesome is if it was in heavy production this whole time and is ready for release - sprung onto the public at this year's E3. Double awesome would be if MS announced the purchase of Vivendi (and Blizzard and Sierra) and provided Sierra still had publishing rights to this franchise, Xbox could release Half-Life 2 along with the original HL and the Opposing Force/Blue Shift/Counterstrike pack which worked with Xbox Live. Oh sweetness. A guy can dream can't he?

Grand Theft Auto 4 - Rockstar shows up at E3 2003 with more than just kiosks for playing their old games... hopefully. They show GTA4 and it sends a hush through the crowd. Meh - it'll probably look just like GTA3. :/

Daikatana 2 - will be announced as a 13 million dollar project which will incorporate the latest enhancements to the Quake 2 engine and will be set for release some time around Christmas 2006.

Splinter Cell 2 - Oh yeah, this game is a certainty - I'm hopeful to get a first glimpse at it this year.

Tron 2.0 - Last year they were selling the story that they had to re-do the entire game because they changed engines or something, so hopefully this year will show something much more complete... they had a big booth last year, so it's certainly a title that they're investing alot into.

Other titles I'm interested in checking out are S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Call of Cthulhu. The Capcom booth will certainly be a hot place to hang this year. So will EA's booth. Oddly enough - Sony doesn't seem to have as much on their plate as they did last year and MS and Nintendo both seem to have much more than last year. It'll be an interesting week.

By the way - I'm buying a digital camera and intend on uploading my pictures this year (last year I took a 35mm camera instead) if anyone's interested. Who else is going? What surprise games do you think might be there? What are you looking forward to seeing?

Mario Kart

Mario 128 being far along and looking innovative rather than just another update.

A 2nd Zelda game, hopefully with the old spaceworld demo style graphics

Metroid prime sequel far enough along to show.

Zodo 02-20-03 09:00 AM

Duke Nukem Forever? I think the reason they didn't show progress last year is because no one even cares about it anymore.
I know I sure don't... I'm positive it's going to be extremely dated, just as Diakatana was when it came out.

What I'm hoping for:
Mario Kart (and really, anything Nintendo hasn't announced yet)
Grand theft auto 4 (or whatever's next)
Metal Gear Solid 3

PixyJunket 02-20-03 09:12 AM

Here's what I'm hoping shows up.

Gamecube:
* Sneak Peak at Metroid 2.
* Starfox (not for me, for my girlfriend)
* Doubtful if they show new Zelda stuff, but if they do it had better be the cartoon style.
* Kid Icarus 2, a fully 2D game using the graphics engine of Smash Brothers.
* Nintendo pulling thier head out from between thier legs and utilizing the damn modem they made.
* Old Skool - A collection of EVERY Nintendo released NES game, perfectly emulated.

Xbox:
* JET SET RADIO 3 please God.. please..
* Anything by Smilebit or Sega.
* Quatum Redshift 2
* Devil May Cry 1
* Wavebird Style controller.

* edit: TRUE FANTASY ONLINE! :D :o

Gameboy Advance:
* Dragon Warrior 4 Remix. That is all.

Playstation 2:
* More great CG Movie based games.
* 100 more GTA clones.

pixieboi, keep up the console bashing and someone is going to get you banned.

As far as E3 goes:
I'd love to see how Doom 3 is coming along. Hopefully you won't need an IBM supercomputer to play it (but you probably will).

GTA 4 would be nice, but I think the folks at Rockstar could use a little break before designing the next game.

Hopefully there will be a new Super Mario game that is truely revolutionary rather than just evolutionary

I'd love a new Ratchet & Clank game (apparently one is in the works). Much less excited about Jak & Daxter 2, but you never know...

Hoing for a new Sims game that addesses all the play mechanic problems of the game and uses a newer engine, rather than just giving you more stuff to buy in yet another expansion.

BUT MOST OF ALL : PRICE REDUCTIONS ON ALL THE CONSOLES!!!

Xanager 02-20-03 10:09 AM

An announcement from Bungie that Halo 2 is five or six months ahead of schedule :D

The Franchise 02-20-03 10:12 AM

I'm going to be looking for Gran Turismo 4 with online play for the PS2. Mario Kart would also be nice.

I like Capcom, but I hope they give us more than 100s of Street Fighter and Megaman games. I'm still baffled how they couldn't get CvS2 to work online smoothly.. I mean we're talking about 2 people only sending data back and forth and no computer controlled entities to manage. And PSO works on a 56k modem, with 4 people sending data, PLUS keeping track of all the monsters and items on all 4 players sides. It's a damn mystery I tell you.

Feneant 02-20-03 10:46 AM

Personnally, I'm hoping we get to see some more MMORPG titles that are in the works with new concepts compared to what we have now.

As far as consoles go, Phantasy Star is finally going to be available to a wider audience on the Xbox, PS2 has Everquest Adventures.. from what I understand they're pretty similar (well from the commercial EQ:A looked like a PSO ripoff)..

True Fantasy Online promises to offer lots of new stuff. I haven't played any PC MMORPGs so I can't compare, but essentially you're supposed to be able to go on adventures, or just hang out with people.. go fishing, and stuff.. sounds great.

There's a Star Wars game coming for Xbox as well, though I have no details on it..

Stoolie 02-20-03 11:02 AM

Mario Kart
A new Oddworld game
Halo 2
A cross platform melee fighter (dreaming, i know, but imagine Master Chief taking on Mario)

More games that utilize the PS2 modem and Xbox live. I'm not convinced yet.

Nintendo announces that following the success of the Zelda pre-order promotion, both the Super Nintendo & N64 versions of Mario Kart will be put on one disk, which will be free for people who preorder Mario Kart for GameCube.

Halo 2 mmmm goood

Mario Kart

sniper308 02-20-03 12:26 PM

Some looks at RE4... It is supposed to be different than the previous installments, I'm interested in what the differences might be (if anything is developed yet).

Ew, Mario Kart? I think the reason they haven't come out with it already is because no one even cares about it anymore. I know I sure don't... I'm positive it's going to be extremely dated, just as your momma was when it came out. In fact - I hate whatever you like... so I'll take GTA4 off my list.
:crap: :p

KingSmoth 02-20-03 12:37 PM

I don't care about anything except Resident Evil 4.

Too bad Everquest came out before PSO...
I'm not surprised to see your usual PS2 bashing. Actually, I expected it when I clicked on the thread.

I know Everquest came out before PSO, but I was talking about Everquest Adventures. I thought EQ and EQA were totally different. I fail to see PS2 bashing in that statement, if anything it would be EQA bashing, and not even that.. simply stating that it looked like a PSO ripoff under the assumption that EQA was different than EQ. And as far as I know we are still allowed to have opinions on individual games.. check the rules, they're clearly in place and I have not crossed them.

Actually the difference here is that in a fighting game you have to send signals with no latency (delay) at all. In PSO it doesn't really have to be "real-time" data for the game to be playable, but in a fighting game where one move can make the difference, intenet congestion can be nearly impossible to deal with.

Oh yes I am aware of that.. I also understand that lag only shows in maybe 10% of people's game. However.. even taking that into cosideration I highly doubt that something like CvS2 requires more bandwidth then games like Unreal or MechAssualt.. there's no possible way, I would even go as far to say that Unreal would require no latency more than CvS2, there's much more action and much more everything.. It's just lazy programming on Capcom's side, if it was Capcom USA working on this title.. they're notorious for being slop artisits.

I'm tired of seeing this argument... FPS games rely on fast reflexes as well... so do sports games. Latency just causes lag. Anything under a 300 ping is playable for any game. There's nothing so special with fighting games.

Actually the two are fairly different in terms of game mechanics. Control and responsiveness makes or breaks fighting games. How many fighting games are there that suck just because there's a miniscule lag between the time you enter a command the on-screen character executes that command? (A lot) Compund this with online congestion and the game becomes unplayable. Not to say that deathmatch play doesn't require fast input and clever network coding but (i) you aren't always engaged with an enemy and (ii) most online games are based on # of kills not a best-of-3-rounds format. Fighting involves you being directly confronted with an enemy 100% of the time and you need to be able to switch from attacking to blocking and back as soon as you enter the command. In real world network situations that level of service is very tough.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.
