Is Turok Evolution THAT bad?
I've been seeing this for uber-cheap all over the place. I was a big fan of the first two and the deathmatch version. I remember reading less-than-stellar reviews, but not that it was god-awful.
I'd pick it up for $15 or less if it was decent. And I have all three systems, so which is the best version? |
yes... bb has it for like $15. still not worth it.
|
I have been wondering the same thing. I liked the original Turok on N64 but never really got involved as the series progressed. Would it be worth $10, I have seen it that cheap before.
|
At first , no the game seems to be average, not great but not horrible either, but by around Chapter 6 is was dragging something fierce, so I look online to see how much longer I have to sit through it, 13 chapters I believe. It gets very repetitive around the middle, sure you go to bigger locations but you're still doing the same things you were back in the first few levels.
Not to mention weapons disappearing from level to level got annoying after awhile, it became obvious that the designers wanted to make the game harder but couldn't think of anything else to do other then up the number of enemies and take away weapons that would have made it a breeze, such as the standard pistol/sniper rifle. |
I agree. I bought it fairly soon after it came out, played a lot of it to try to like it, but returned it.
I wouldn't pay $1 for it. It is that bad. |

I wouldnt take this game if you gave me 10 bucks and a ride to the store.

When I first got it, I was enjoying it but it starts dragging after awhile. I guess I may never finish it with DOAX and Splinter Cell taking all my time. I would say that if you like first-person shooters, it is worth the $10. It sure wasn't worth the $50 I shelled out for it. Geez...live and learn. |
Actually I'm playing it right now and am trying to enjoy it but, the flying levels are making this game annoying rather than enjoyable.
I'm on chapter 8 I think and just like in some previous levels I run over to the pistol ammo to pick it up, but it just says "Need Pistol" I'm like WTF!! I just had the pistol in the previous chapter and how did I lose it. This game has me PO'd and even though I swore to finish every game I bought, TEXAS and MADMAN are definitely being entered in the cheat menu after I type this so I won't have to suffer through this game much longer. |
do not waste your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
This game screams rush job, and Acclaim deserves none of your money for this, no matter how little you pay.

I bought it on XBOX when it first came out. It was so frustrating that I didn't have any fun playing it so I ended up selling it. My brother got the GCN version which I tried and it was horrible as well.
|
The multiplayer can be SOMEWHAT entertaining with the dark matter balls. Just put them to infinate and let them fly.
|
And why oh why did they let me have fun with the spider mines only to not let me get them in any other level thus far (at least I haven't been able to find them).
I loved the first Turok for the N64. At least you could use all your weapons that you aquired anytime anywhere. |
This was a terrible terrible game. I don't even know why it was made. They need to pay the people back who bought the game because it was that bad.
|
It sucked, but not as much as Timesplitters 2.

Not one but two..............
If you are into buying Turok Evolution than you might as well get Bruce Lee as well;)

When great games have crappy sequels on the next "Extended Play."
I hated them all but the first. The first was magical. Pure genius. Original, Fun, & Hard(with the spacing of the save points). Then comes 2,3,4... that have nothing to do with dinosaurs, instead they replace them with aliens and space ships. What the...! You get 4+ games past the first one and have totally lost sight of why everyone loved it in the first place. Sounds like a case of the original designers moving on and the accountants at Acclaiam going in and taking over. I too was looking forward to Evolutions, but never picked it up because of all the bad reviews. Played Multi-Player with some friends for about 30 mins. Should have named it Multi-Player Suck Fest. |
This thread actually made me go back and try to finish this game. I got the cheat codes, did the levels I wanted to and finished it.
I must say that my hat is off to anyone who actually finished this game with no cheats. I found that even playing with the cheats the game is still difficult (in places) and quite tedious. Anyone out there who really finished this witout cheating? You have to admit that you do get a lot of gameplay out of it if you like the game. 15 chapters with at least 3 or 4 subchapters in each is a good bit. |
I thought the n64 version was really frickin' hard, and you had to do a whole lot of saving, eventaully i just gave up, then i used the cheat to finish the game

The two things I enjoyed most about this game are the rocket launcher and the flamethrower.
I think the rocket launcher kicked ass! Especially with its secondary fire where it shreds the enemy down (the only drawback was it was too slow to get this shot out). The flamethrower lets out a quick burst of fire before it streams forward to roast the enemy. It had pretty good distance too. You could even see heatwaves and smoke rising around the fire. The rumble effect of the controller with the flamethrower adds to the effect of the weapon. It's cool just using the thing to burn your surroundings. :D The 'death animation' when an enemy is on fire is one of the best I've seen so far in a game utilizing a flamethrower. Show me a game with a better flamethrower. Too bad these two things could not mask the horrible game that it is. |
Unreal 2 has a better flamethrower.

Does the game also support rumble feedback for the weapon? |

Whew.
I picked this up for a whopping $5.99 a couple weeks ago and have been slowly working my way through the game. It's nice to know I wasn't going crazy when I discovered half my weapons missing between one level and the next. I also can't figure out how to walk back down ladders without falling flat on my face. I'll just chalk it up to a game-bug and play the crap out of my $5.99 game. |
$4 for me! Atleast its worth $4...
|
It gets very repetitive around the middle, sure you go to bigger locations but you're still doing the same things you were back in the first few levels. I've just skipped this one outside of rental.. which is more expensive than grunter or gizmo paid... |
The only good thing from buying this a while back with those Best Buy coupons is that my 2 year old son is all over dinosaurs, and he saw the box at the store and walked around with it the whole time. I told him that we had it at home, which was sad honestly telling my son that I bought that piece of crap.
He occasionally goes to the games/DVD furniture piece and points to it and says "DInosaur, Dinosaur". The only thing that I can then do is suffer a bit while I play this game until he forgets about the dinosaurs. |
I'm actually enjoying this game, its not great but its well worth the current price. It is pretty hard, i love shooting the snipers and watching them fall of the cliffs.

Originally posted by Trigger It sucked, but not as much as Timesplitters 2. Turok was so bad, despite playing and beating all the N64 predecessors, I stayed far away from this terrible version. Of course, according to Acclaim, poor sales of this game (across all platforms) is not because of the game being almost unplayable, but soley because of Nintendo. |
I could only handle the first level before I shelved the game. It wasn't the worst game ever made, it just could not hold my interest.
|
I liked Timesplitters2.
I tried to like Turok, but returned it. I wouldn't pay 25 cents for Turok Evolution. It was THAT bad. |
Actually, I WOULD pay 25 cents for Turok. But only for the new case ... :)
