What's the best site for video game reviews???
What does everyone think??? I need some reviews on a couple of games, any input is appreciated
I'd recommend hitting www.game-rankings.com , the Rotten Tomatoes of the gaming world.
Or head over to rottentomatoes... they are starting a game section too.
Gamespot.com and Ign.com, get your reviews there and pick between the two.
metacritic.com also compiles and has links to multiple reviews for video games.
IGN
the only bad part about IGN is you have to pay for their premium service which kind of sucks

I still prefer Gamespot. They seem to be pretty accurate in what I will think of the games with their reviews. Maybe other people disagree and may say they are Xbox haters, but I find that I usually am in agreement if not with the number, then with the content of the review.
IGN is very biased, I stayed away from the before, and even more since the 9.6 (i think thats what it was) they gave to DOA Volleyball.
the xbox editors of IGN are pretty out of control and have been since the beginning, but their PS2, PC and Gamecube editors are great
I still read the xbox reviews on IGN for any interesting points or issues that would pique my curiosity or kill it completely, but everything they say I have to take with a few grains of salt because they can go fanboy without too much hassle and now that they're really starting to sell out by selling ad space in the form of site-theming (Goldmember, Coke, and EQOA themes so far that I've caught) I may worry about their editorial content...if EQOA gets an arbitrary 9+ score, I think that will be the end of their credibility in my eyes. Bottom line I guess: don't go by any one site...read as much as you possibly can about a game (particulary real player reviews) and make your own conclusions...overall I've found the quality of IGN (sans xbox) and Gamespot to be of the highest quality. |

Originally posted by Gamewizard Fyi, RottenTomatoes does games now as well. they're putting the finishing touches on that section right now. |
Doh! I gotta start getting more sleep.
Sorry........ |
www.gamefaqs.com is not really a review site, but it does have lots of neat info on games for all systems. There are also message boards there that might prove helpful to gamers thinking about specific purchases.
Gamespot i find to be the best. Problem is you can only see the score after some period of when the game is first reviewed under the free service. And ign is pretty good too (GC guys particularly, since i am most familar with them) and the free system there works in the opposite fashion as gamespots so i would use both.
www.videogametalk.com anyone?
ign.com and gamesdomain.com, i usually check both sites and if they both agree then the game is pretty good
I thought way back in the day Geoff's little brother was starting videogametalk? what ever happend with that?
Gamespy.com, totalgames.net, gamesdomain.com, planetps2.com, gamepro.com, gamezone.com, gamespot.com to name a few websites where you can find good reviews.

Originally posted by Dah-Dee www.gamefaqs.com is not really a review site, but it does have lots of neat info on games for all systems. There are also message boards there that might prove helpful to gamers thinking about specific purchases. I like www.rpgfan.com for reviews of RPG's on the NES through the PS2. But mainly I use www.gamerankings.com and click through to any reviews from sites I like. |
I go to gamespot and IGN. They're pretty indepth and thorough in their reviews, even though I don't agree with them some of the time. You have to always take reviews with a grain of salt. rpgfan is my pick for rpg reviews, its a lot better than rpgamer. gamerankings is a little too overwhelming for me, so i try to stick to just a few sites I know and not every site out there.
For the Game Boy systems, pocket.ign.com is very good and very unbiased (it's also basically run by one guy, so you're getting fairly uniform review standards).
I go to various sites for different systems, but that one's my favorite. |
