Xbox Gets Budget Lineup
Xbox Gets Budget Lineup
27-JAN-03
Although Microsoft themselves hasn't bothered to make a public announcement yet, the company is about to launch Xbox Platinum Hits, a line of PS2 Greatest Hits-style budget rereleases for their own system. The first two games in this library, Max Payne and Project Gotham Racing, are already available at online shops here and there; they should hit retail shops over the next couple of days.
The exact price of Platinum games varies—Max Payne is set at $29.99, while Gotham is much more reasonable at $19.99—and there isn't any word quite yet on what requirements games have to meet before they can join Microsoft's budget library. In other words, check your local store for details.

Max Payne has been as low as $24.
I bought it for that w/ a hint guide (at Target) like 4 months ago, maybe longer.
I hope they do a better job w/ a budget line than what has been mentioned so far.

Thanks for the news, but this seems about as exciting as Nintendo's Player's Choice line. Both systems have way over 100 games each, and they're only budgeting 2 titles?

At least Nintendo is budgeting Smash Bros Melee a popular title that still sells for $49.99 at most stores. The two games MS picked are already that cheap everywhere.
Where's Halo on the markdown list?

MS should offer the same titles as the PS2 for $19.99.
Any "platnium" titles priced more than a "grtst. hits" is a bad idea for the gamers, but will definitely increase the # of game/console sales.

i like green cases... but i don't like it when everyone seems to feel like that's the only color they can use.
some of the best dvd cases that i like aren't black. yellow submarine is... well black in the us, but yellow in the uk.

they should make clear ones, so we can see when the dvd comes loose from the holder and not buy it. I've been fooled too many times with loose inserts sounding like a loose disc, and vice versa.

Are you people just incredibly OCD about scratches or do discs really go bad because of minor scratches?

I'd say theres a %age of peeps here with OCD, but not me. haha! I buy preowned video games all the time and some have scratches. Ive recently found that its pretty easy to ebay or half.com away and dvds i don't want in my collection, and scratches matter to a lot of people, or face negative feedback!

Just looked at the new Wally World flyer. It lists Project Gotham Racing and Amped as two of the available titles. Also, xboxes at wal-mart (exlusively) will include a third game (Rallysport Challenge? or something like that). Not sure when it starts, probably mid to late February.

hmmm., at this price maybe I'll pick up Blood Wake a third time ;p Fun game, but just not quite enough -- especially in multiplayer. Might be nice to have more options there.
May finally pick up Amped. Rented it over a year ago, but never picked it up since then. Haven't tried Wreckless or Oddworld yet either.

At least they have the sense to make them $19.99 instead of $29.99 like Nintendo.
But where's Halo? I know it still sells well at $50, but MS is mainly interested in gaining market share and Halo at $20 would likely inspire a few impulse buys of an X-box console.

Oh, I agree. I said that I know it still sells at $50. It's just that MS wants to get as many X-boxes in homes as possible almost regardless of losses to build market share and having halo for $20 would entice some impulse buys and get some people on the fence to buy an X-box.
