id- Doom, Quake...basically inventing probably the most-played genre ;)
Valve- for the one game they've put out that's changed FPS forever....Half-Life |
Undoubtedly, my favorite is Squaresoft, because of Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X. I bought my PSX because of FFVIII; and then bought my PS2 because of FFX....
I guess my second favorite would be id software...because of the Doom and Quake series... |
Nintendo.
They make the best games IMO, period. Zelda, Metroid, and Mario are my all time favorite series. Each new installment sets the bar for the respective genre. Probably my favorite thing about Nintendo developed games is the control. It's always flawless. You can learn all the moves in a matter of minutes. They're also excellent at tailoring the gameplay so that you have to use all of your moves. Basically everything I like in a game, Nintendo does best IMO. |
Factor 5, even though they've only made a few games, I love Rogue Sqaudran 1 and 2, I also really like Blizzard
|
EA
i mostly play sports games. they have been and will likely continue to be the leading developer in realistic sports simulations and also develop a wide variety of other games. the FPS games on the PC they make are also very good. |
Nintendo, without a doubt. They consistently put out great games. I can't name a single Nintendo in-house-developed game that I don't like.

Komami- they go way back with Scramble and Time Pilot and they gave us Metal Gear Solid
Electronic Arts- Great games all around. Rarely do they ever put out a bad title. Sony Studios/989- For Syphon Filter, Ape Escape and Sly Cooper. Rare- Can't forget them. After all they gave us Battletoads |
I have a few favorite developers, but unfortunately, most of them are not what they used to be. All of them are PC developers. Most of my gaming heyday was from 1992 to 1996, so a lot of the games were from that time period.
Black Isle Studios is probably my favorite at the moment. Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment are two of my all time favorite games. I really loved Origin Systems back in the day. Ultima VII: The Black Gate was my first foray into CRPGs. Wing Commander, Privateer, System Shock, the Ultima and Ultima Underworld series, and the Crusader series were some of the best games procuded. Sierra On-Line back when they were making adventure games. King's Quest, Space Quest, Quest for Glory, Leisure Suit Larry, Conquest of the Longbow, etc. They were right in the middle when the adventure genre was in it's heyday. I also liked LucasArts for the same reason. Day of the Tentacle is my favorite adventure game ever. Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, and even the Dig were great games. I also loved the first generation of Star Wars games, most notably X-Wing and Tie Fighter. I spent many an hour with those games. Blizzard is another great developer. I'm always eagerly awaiting their next realease (except Starcraft: Ghost). Id Software. Gotta love Doom and Quake. It was such an experience playing Wolfenstein 3-D for the first time. I even loved them as Apogee when they were making Commander Keen games. When Access Software was around, I loved all their games. The Tex Murphy games were awesome and we used to play the hell out of Links 386 Pro. Too bad they got swallowed up by Microsoft. The Links series has suffered and they don't make anything else. I had really high hopes for Appeal after they came out with Outcast. I was really looking forward to the sequel. It's a shame they went under. |
Konami, I can sum up the "why" in 3 words: Metal Gear Solid :)
|
1. Nintendo (Mario series, Zelda series, Super Mario Kart, Earthbound, Metroid series, & others)
2. Rare (DK64, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, DKC series, Blast Corps, R.C. Pro-Am) 3. Square (Final Fantasy series [especially on SNES], Secret of Mana, Xenogears) 4. Konami (Castlevania series, early Contra games, Gradius series, TMNT 2 & 4). 5. Sega (Sonic series, Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball) Back in the 16-bit days, I was also a big fan of Capcom (Street Fighter II, UN Squadron, Final Fight, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts), although I haven't been overwhelmed with most of their recent stuff that I've played. |
