Mothers Against Videogame Addiction and Violence

http://www.mavav.org/resources/

Sounds like more idiots that should have never had kids. If you can't teach little Johnny the difference between right and wrong in the real world, it was YOUR FAULT that he stole a car and shot 27 people. It wasn't because he played a GTA game and couldn't discern the difference between fantasy and reality.

I just wish video games wouldn't be associated with children. Once the public gets it through their heads we may soon have a better society.

Mothers against stupid parents would be a much more worthwhile organization. They got the ratings on games they wanted so now they need to go away. Its not my fault if little billy's parents buy him BMX XXX and GTA: Vice City without checking the rated M label. Censorship needs to stop.

I would like to know where these kids get to the money to blow on games. The parents are giving them the money to buy the games they should know what the hell they are buying. Buy a barbie game for em' or don't buy any games period unless you can read the back of the package.

I love how their web site is just a bunch of made up "facts". I say we all make an anti-MAVAV web site which lists facts such as:

"Fact: All MAVAV members have IQ's lower than 60"

This is the worst site I have ever seen. There is no factual info ont he site. All they have are unsubstantiated claims that add up to nothing more than a lacking of parental responsibility. We are all dumber for having seen this.

These people are idiots. Is this site real? Some of the "Articles" seem to "perfect". Perhpaps is is a joke. Either way, here are some entertaining quotes:
Hardcore gamers never buy computer videogames. Instead, downloading illegally copied videogames or “warez” is the only method acceptable by the underground. Buying a legit copy is grounds for abandonment by community groups
It is best for all electronic entertainment devices be placed in a common area where a clock is present and adult supervision is available. If this is not at all possible, we recommend having your child's door remain open and be checked in on every hour.

The website is laughable. "The Frightning Facts?." It should be Frightening, not Frightning. Their "facts" lose credibility when they can't even spell.

I also dislike how video games are constantly associated with children and seen as a childrens activity. I guess it's because the gaming industry is still so young compared to other forms of entertainment like TV or movies. Unfortunately it'll probably take a few more decades before gaming is truly seen as a mainstream activity.

But I also have to agree that gaming is much more addictive than other forms of activity. It's a lot easier to lose yourself in a video game for 10 hours than it is to lose yourself in a movie(s), TV, or even books. And as kids are generally not as mature in terms of time management as adults are, it's important for parents to set rules about how much time is spent on gaming.

I just sent them this:

Interesting read. None of your facts have any credibility at all. Where are the links (to back up your wild, made up claims) to all this devastating information? Truth is, all of your "facts" point to one thing, parenting. It is the parents responsibility, not society.

Fact is the majority of gamers are 18 and up. Do I have any proof of this data? No, but it could be made up just like your claims. The people that have been playing games since pong and pac-man, are grown up and still playing games. I grew up playing video games, am I depressed and on the edge of becoming some violent lunatic? Give me a break. I played sports in high school and scored all A's and B's. College? 3.95 GPA graduate. All while playing video games. It's amazing. Do you want to know why? I have two great parents that taught me right from wrong.

It's mothers like you that made the videogame industry implement a rating system in the first place. Are the parents so irresponsible to ignore this handy tool? Where does junior get the games? MOM and dad. Where does junior get the money for games? MOM and dad.

MAVAV should spend less time forming little clubs with funny little acronyms, and more time parenting.

You parent your own kids, and I will parent mine.

Symptom: Poor school grades
A typical report card by a troubled videogame player:

Computer Education Excellent
English Poor
Mathemathics Poor
Science Poor
Social Studies Poor
Physical Education Poor

Never assume drugs or otherwise is the problem for your child's poor academic performance. Videogame addiction is not to be under-estimated. It is a serious epidemic plaguing our children nationwide. We recommend getting professional psychiatric help.

Yeah, because we all know drugs aren't a problem anymore.

This is the only thing that makes a modicum of sense, and then only for the really young kids. Once their in the mid to high teens, they're usually too far gone to make a difference

But seriously, I want my money back from these groups from buying Night Trap for the Sega CD because I figured with all the hoopla, it had to be good, gorey, and racy. It sucked so hard it left marks.

Oh god not another one of these.

Here's the whole thing ( going into Karl Malone mode). You know I always shake my head whenever I read these things. Seems like there's no shortage of people who want to blame video games, movies, the internet, television or pornography for society's ills.

It all comes down to this. Parents need to be parents!! That means setting guidelines and limitations on many of your child's activities!! How hard is it to say "Alright little Johnny, you can play video games for a half hour but that's it, then you have to do your homework." Instead people think video games are a babysitter. When I was a kid I played games yeah, but my parents also signed me up for little league. And then I'd go and play football at the park with my little league buddies, then I'd shoot hoops with those guys at the gym in the winter time...well you can see where I'm going with this. So many parents get kids game systems because "it keeps him/her quiet" AND THAT'S THE WRONG REASON!!

Like I keep saying, parents need to take an active role in a child's life. If not Grand Theft Auto, Sony, Rockstar games, Nintendo or Microsoft aren't to blame because your kids turned out bad. If you need to point the finger at someone take a good long hard look in the mirror.

The most simplest defense us Video Gamers have against these idiot mom's...

If video games are so violent and frankly are the root of all evil, then why is our own government spending tax dollars on America's Army video game to pretty much train us in combat.

It has to be a joke. The picture of the little boy and the report card are too hilarious.
