Game Informer reports Splinter Cell heading for GameCube, PS2 and PC
Ubi Soft's stealth adventure looks like it's bound to creeping over to other consoles. The new Game Informer magazine on newstands this month, reports that Splinter Cell is going to be released first for PC in January then surfacing both GameCube and PS2 in March.
Game Informer also reports that sequels are in the works for Shinobi and Robotech ( the latter didn't specify which console so most likely we'll see it across all 3 like this past game). :whofart: |
And for the GBA -

Was there any doubt?

Well if it had been a AAA killer title that sold more consoles like GTAIII series, then there might have been. But it wasn't, so no, not really.

The playable demo of Splinter Cell for PC is out. :)
Splinter Cell demo - 105mb Download (site 1) Download (site 2) Download (site 3) (Site 3 had the fastest transfer rate for me...YMMV) |

PS2 pics are out also. Some look good, some look horrible.

Eww bad experience with the PC demo for me.
- Five crashes, but presumably those will be fixed by the time the game releases. - Heat vision doesn't work for me. It just displays a black screen for me. That should also be fixed I'd guess - Running at 1024x768 with all details on high looks a lot worse than the X-Box version - I couldn't get Sam to run. I tried using my gamepad that has an analog control, but he would still only walk the same speed. - So far, I prefer the X-Box controller to mouse + keyboard. I like having two analog sticks. I like mouse + keyboard better for FPS games, but not for this. Also, to me, using the buttons on the X-Box controller is better than mapping all the functions to keys. - The sound was nowhere as good as the X-Box version. I'm only using a 2 speaker setup here though, so that could account for the quality. However I've played other games with this same two speaker setup that sound very good. Most of these problems should be or could possibly be fixed by release date, but they have a long way to go. Getting a PC controller with two analog sticks would be the only thing under my control though probably. |
A common thing to do in demos is to reduce the texture sizes and sampling rates for the audio so as to minimize the download size. So, it's not entirely surprising that it doesn't look as good or sound as good as the XBox version.

If anyone has played through the Xbox version, do you remember the setting or mission objective depicted in this screenshot?
http://www.teamfalcononline.com/pics/ps2sc5.jpg I finished the game last week and don't remember this one at all...new level perhaps? |
That one wasn't in it. If the rumors going around are true, one of the downloadable levels for the X-Box will ship with the PS2 version, and the rest of the downloadable levels will be exclusives.

What's yours? - Hmm, it looks beautiful on my setup. Again, what's your video card? - I'm fine with the controls. But I'm a quick learner on controls and don't really have a problem with any game I play. After about 5 minutes messing around.. I flew through. I can get much easier head shots now though. :) As for running/walking, a quick look at the control setup might be handy. But someone updated you. - Sound is all the same to me. Might be because I have extremely similar setups to my xbox and PC. Xbox is connected to a Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 and PC is connected to Cambridge Soundworks FPS1800. |
Saw Splinter Cell on my step-son's Xbox....AWESOME!!! Good to hear it will be on PS2. Why do I have a feeling the PS2 version will not match up to the Xbox version???
Is anyone else wondering where the next Syphon Filter game is now that this game has been released. Splinter Cell has me craving for the next Syphon game which will be the first at the next level. :) |
Actually there is a Syphon Filter game in the works for the PS2. I can't remember the source where I read it but it's supposed to be out sometime in 2003.
:whofart: |
the fire looked horrible on the ps2 pics. I'll keep my xbox version thank you. :)

Great! Splinter Cell was one of my reasons for wanting an X-Box (bought a Gamecube instead after months of debating and waiting to see what deals would arrive with X-Mas). Now I too can see what all you X-Box owners have been enjoying. It has been far too long since a stealth game has come out.

I played it and don't see what the big deal is. You basically walk in a straight line and have to figure out the correct way to get past each obstacle. If you die then you do it over and over again.

I guess I'm just a PC boy, but man I love this game on my PC (well the demo I have played to death now) and I really disliked the X-box controller. I will wait for a PC version in high hopes. :)
