Additional question: is having played the original a must, or can one still enjoy the sequel regardless?

If you liked the first one you will like the second.

It comes with and hour movie of what happened in the first one, so you know whats going on.

playing the original definitly adds to the experience, since the story is directly continuous. but i think you could enjoy it even if you have not played it...maybe.

Shenmue II is pretty much the same style as the original, it has its good parts and its boring parts. If you didn't like the original there's nothing in this one that'll make you like it. It was fun to play through at least once though, if you're a fan of the series like me.

From what I've heard it's pretty good, if you liked the first one, you'll love this one. This reviewer thought it was the bomb yo.

Shenmue 2 isn't very good. The first one was cool because it was something new. Now it's just more of the same. Some parts are ridiculously boring, repetitve, and stupid too.

I owned it for DC. I thought the first one was as you described, good but boring in parts. The second one was pretty much identical, to the first. (For the DC)

Did they improve the game at all for the xbox? I saw a commerical and the graphics looked the same, but perhaps they fixed some of the AI issues and boring parts of the game.

Not really. I think they updated the character model of Ryo and added some other silly features like the ability to take snapshots and change the graphics colors.

Is the draw distance different and what is the extra thing they included on it like?

I never played the DC version. I don't think any reviews I read of the game mentioned improved draw distance. I didn't find the draw distance to be a problem though.

You mean the Shenmue movie? It was pretty good. It was comprised of cutscenes from the first game. The story isn't great and the dialogue is bad but the movie was still relatively enjoyable.

Cool thanks. I guess I found the first Shenmue not very boring at all, it was cool doing all that stuff like playing games at the arcade or gambling. I can't wait for Shenmue III. In the meantime, I bet the price drops on this in a few months like the first one did so I'll pick it up then.

A remake of the original makes sense, I hope they do it, even if it's just a straight port.

If little has changed from the DC version, why did it take so long to get to the Xbox? Anyone know?

GP: Just don't say I didn't warn you. When Ryo says, "We have to get to the 17th floor" and all the elevators are out don't come back here and complain to me.

OK here's a warning for you: GTA VC is just a bunch of getting from one place to another, and has bigtime boring segments. So much so I sold it. If you get it, don't say I didn't warn you.

A realtime elevator system sounds cool though. Seriously, if Sega took the engine and made it into a crime simulator, it would sell more copies than they could make.
