Which Memory Card Does Metroid Prime Need ?
 

Someone is getting it for me for Christmas.

The grey or black ?

Either one will work. The black is a much better deal, however, since it is only $5 more but it has nearly 5x as much storage space.

Like Groucho said the Memory Card 251 (black one) is a much better deal. Keep in mind though that Metroid ony uses 1 save block.

But do you need the black or is the grey enough for the entire game ?

I like to have a separate memory card for each game.

Grey is more than enough. This is one of the least memory-intensive games on the Cube.

The grey had 59 blocks, the black has 251 blocks.

Metroid Prime uses 1 block, so either's fine.

I'd go with the 251, because unless you're into sports games on the GC, it'll likely be the only card you ever need.

Unless you want to waste a ton of money to have a seperate card for each game. :confused: What's the point of that?

Hmmm.... I just got one at BB for $19.99 that had over 1000 blocks (a Nyko?). It wasn't the Nintendo 251 which cost the same for a fifth of the memory blocks. I couldn't see paying for the Nintendo name. I should be able to store saves from every game I expect to ever own for my GC on this one card.

With the problem of potential unreliability.

Third party memory cards, especially the large compacity ones, are notorious for screwing up and losing data, and nothing sucks worse than losing game saves and having to do stuff over. I had problems with some third party N64 and Dreamcast memory cards losing my saves.

So, IMO, I'm not paying for the console name brand, I'm paying for peace of mind.

Unless you really don't mind losing all of your data, always go 1st party with Memory Cards.

NCAA College Football needs the black one by itself, same with NASCAR Thunder. I only have about 7 GC games so buying a grey card for each one isn't a big deal.

Plus if you just use one card for all of your games and that card fails you just lost all your data from all of your games.

I've never had a first party card fail. And I don't have the money to plop down $15 for a card, and only use a few of the 59 blocks, for each game I buy. But it's your money. ;)

With the sports games, you have no choice if you only own a GC. I bought NCAA 2003 for my PS2 instead, simply because of the lame Nintendo memory cards.

I would never buy anything other than a first party card.

i have 2 PS, 2 PS2, 2 GC and 1 XBOX memory unit. Third party ones are not worth the risk. I don't care how much extra space ya get at a discounted cost. I would freak if I lost my entire card or cards.

I 100% agree with going for ONLY the first-party (Nintendo, Sony, etc..) memory cards. I laughed at a friend of mine several times for one of the "Super dooper ultra huge" memory cards corrupting his Final Fantasy VII save, and having to do it all over again. I'm one of those people who absolutely hates re-doing stuff. It pisses me off just playing like an hour and a half on metroid and then dying before I get to a save point (only happened once). If I was 30 hours into an RPG and lost all of my data I probably never would start the game again.

Either grey for black. Metroid isn't too much of a memory hog.

As they stated, always buy first party memory cards.

I recently read that certain 3rd party memory cards do not work with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for some reason, be careful about these kinds of things :).

I will jump on and agree with the consensus. You get what you pay for with memory cards. If you want to go cheaper with a 3rd party card - you're running a risk of losing your save.

Especially be wary of memory cards that are larger than anything that the first party puts out. Like someone's friend above, my "mega' memory card, which had something like 15 pages, each page the equivalent of a normal PS memory card, failed multiple times, and eventually erased my FF VII save (on the fourth disc). There is probably a reason why Nintendo hasn't come out with a bigger memory card than they have...

On a side note... anyone able to get that 5 off of 19.99 coupon to work on a memory card 251 at BestBuy? They seem to have priced it to 19.95, which is 4 cents under the limit!

Where is this $5 off $20 coupon? I've asked about it, but no one's told me :-(

The coupons are in PC Gamer, Computer Gamer, Game Pro, etc. I just used the $5 off $19.99 at Bestbuy this weekend to get the 251. There was also a $10 off $49.99 at KBKids in one of them, that helped make Metroid only $39.99
