Great posts, tha_dvd_man.
I have to admit, the majority of the games I enjoy right now from Japan are sequels or similar style gameplay to what they've created 10-20 years ago : (Contra, Castlevania, Metroid, Super Mario, Zelda, etc.). Could it be nostaglia from my gaming days in the 80's? Or just that the gameplay was so good, why fix what isn't broken? I don't know the answer, but I'll keep playing them because they are blast to play. :) |
LOL, I think I stop before it gets really nasty everyone has there tastes and opinions and think we should treat this like console bashing. Words like wrong and asinie describing someone's taste in popular japanese games(culture) is really bad. You have say then that coming Zelda, past Mario, Mario 64, OOT, etc then are in fact that. The day video game industry has little japanese influence is time for alot diehard gamers to quite. Shocking as it might for some there many that dont have any attraction to mainstream us only games, first person blood fests, sports or MTV mentality, and understand japanese philosy of returning to filimar place you love verse every stinkn title having to be innovative. Proof why bestselling game of recent Dragon Quest 7 is leader. I guess this is good forum to get away with obvious misplaced american patritism because you get ripped new one any place serious gamer hang out.

Originally posted by tha_dvd_man Even so, Halo had unprecedented AI for its time, Originally posted by tha_dvd_man and incorporated elements such as two-sided large-scale battles and significant vehicle use into a single-player FPS campaign, which was quite new. All the while with extremely tight and polished gameplay. Anyway.. I disagree with most of what you said. True, western developers are making more open-ended games, but I don't view that as a good thing. GTA and Morrowind bored me after a few hours of play. I still re-play very linear games from the 80s and 90s today. Your opinion is that open-ended gameplay is the future of gaming, so you think Western developers are better. My opinion is that linear games are still more fun and overall better than open-ended games, so Japanese developers are also, for the most part, better. Also, I couldn't find anything about what Halo 2 will be like.. just that it will focus on multiplayer.. yeah.. that's something new....... |
Originally posted by tha_dvd_man Wrong, I used Halo 2 as an upcoming groundbreaking game. Go read about what Bungie are doing with Halo 2. It will indeed be groundbreaking. No time constraints now......this will be their original vision. my mistake :), i haven't read any info for halo 2. Please describe them. The Japanese are good are presenting old ideas in a new and more stylish way |
This is like arguing over whether burgers or burritos are better. It's all personal taste... meat, cheese and bread. I personally like American developers best, but that's the style of games I like. Japanese developers are good too.

What I think is funny how some people in tis thread will say X games break new boundries first, and then say X games are better because they are more refined. Which one is it?
Does that make sense? |

I dunno, all I know is there are apparently a lot of Josh-class developers in today's console scene. :p
