Vice City Shakedown mission

During the shakedown mission, you're supposed to break the glass on a few stores. I tried to break them with a baseball bat, but they wont break! a few minutes after the time limit, i was able to break it. Bug?? Anyone else experience this? any workaround? would really like to buy some properties.

Kellehair 12-05-02 11:10 PM

1. You're probably standing too close.
2. Use an uzi.

mabus 12-05-02 11:14 PM

yeah, seriously...it'll definitely be easier with a gun, but still pretty hard. I did that mission by riding into the mall on a motorcycle and doing drivebys on most of the windows.

Draven 12-05-02 11:21 PM

I gave up bashing them, and started using the machine gun. Worked the first time I tried it (though try not to hit the cops :) )

I've heard grenades work well, but I didn't try that.

spankyj 12-06-02 08:22 AM

The easiest way is using a machine gun. Make sure to grab the change of clothes too - that always helps.

djones6746 12-06-02 10:24 AM

I used the bat at first also......takes up way too much time. First...I flew there in the helicopter which saved a bunch of time...then used the uzi to take out the glass. Did not think about a motorcycle inside the mall. :)

Hmmm...I swear I grabbed the change of clothes with a two-star wanted level and it didn't do anything...

If you're already wearing the clothes you change into then your wanted level stays the same. For example if you are wearing the overalls and change into the overalls then nothing will happen to your wanted level.

I ran around with body armor and an uzi and smashed the windows. Finished the mission on my first try. Alternate outfits between the Gash store and the hardware store.

Thrillhouse 12-06-02 02:21 PM

I didn't alternate outfits once and was able to beat it running from store to store. Also if you get really stuck I think the rocket can break windows. R1, R2, L1, R2, Left, Right, Down, Up, Left, Down, Down, Up.

MJKTool 12-06-02 03:24 PM

As others have said, all I did was take a fast bike in there and shoot a machine gun while riding the bike.

jw2299 12-06-02 06:13 PM

That mission was hard for me b/c I didn't think of changing clothes. It took me a long time, but I finally did it on a bike with the uzi.

..

The easiest way is to get your hands on the missle launcher... get about 20 missles and blast the stores from long range. I was able to driver over, blast all the windows and complete the mission with about 45 seconds left.

Rob V 12-06-02 06:57 PM

Get the launcher in a pool near a hotel by the airport.

timewaster 12-06-02 10:16 PM

Thanks for all the hints. This mission has been a real bitch for me. Funny thing is, I breezed thru the previous 2 mission (last Cortez and last Diaz) even though others have said they were both hard.

When riding on a bike, did u have to get off the bike to shoot the windows?

Kellehair 12-06-02 10:31 PM

Drive-by.

where can you get a missle launcher?
I've already used up the rocket launcher from the hotel near the airport

Kellehair 12-06-02 11:22 PM

It reappears.

Dr_Evil 12-07-02 11:30 AM

So has anyone actually got close to 100% complete? I'm at about 50% right now, and I've beat the main storyline, I wonder what there is left. I still haven't got the malibu club making money but what else is there?

Wow, um....hidden packages, unique jumps, rampages, assassination contracts (phone missions), store robberies, paramedic, pizza delivery, vigilante, fire truck, Mr. Whoopee, owning all property, side missions, etc etc etc...I have virtually ignored the main storyline in favor of doing the side stuff first. It makes the game missions easier with the bonuses you earn from this stuff. I advanced the storyline enough to access the second island and have completed maybe 3/4 of the side stuff and I'm getting up close to 50%, I'm in the low 40's I think right now.

timewaster 12-07-02 09:00 PM

After reading the ideas here, I went back and was finally able to complete this mission. Didn't use a chopper or a motorcycle. Drove to the mall with about 3 1/2 minutes left and just use the machine gun instead of the bat.

How do you know what percentage of the game u completed?

Also, I just bought the car dealership. Read that it can generate money if you steal cars. How does this work?after u steal a car where do u put it, in one of the garages? Do u get money for every car u steal or do u need to compelete one of the list?

Just give it a try and you can answer all your own questions.

never mind. Just saw that little sign next to one of the garages.
Must've missed it before.

einTier 12-10-02 12:25 PM

I just checked mine the other day and noticed I'm at 76%. I really thought I was somewhere around 40%, as I've still got a lot of side missions to do -- but I have done all the hidden packages and unique jumps and most of the vehicle missions.

I had actually put it down for about two weeks, but now I think I'm just going to plow through and finish it 100% (as I did with GTA3).

Dr_Evil 12-10-02 12:48 PM

I'm up to about 60% with only the malibu left as far as missions go. I've done about 1/3 of the unique jumps, 92% of hidden packages, i think the rampages are what I need to do most, i've only done 1 so far. Also, the taxi/cop/tank vigilante missions I need to work on.

victant 12-11-02 04:00 AM

Getting a little OT, but the rampages in VC are much easier than in GTA3. I have yet to fail one on my first try, where I was always screwing up in the original....
