PS2 Video Game Recommendation Needed

Hi All,

I am not a gamer. My friend is, however, and I'd like to buy him a game for his PS2 for Christmas.

I have no idea what the "in" games are nowadays - but all I know is he likes Gran Turismo 3 and Final Fantasy 10.

Can anyone make any good recommendations? Maybe like a 10 ten list for the PS2?

Thanks!

Any chance you can get a hold of a list of games that they already have?

Most big gamers tend to pick up the ones they really want.

Both of the games you mentioned are the pinacle of their respective genres so getting other ones like it as good will be tough.

RPG
Suikoden 3
Baldur's Gate (little more action-oriented than a typical RPG though)
Summoner 2
Kingdom Hearts

Driving:
Burnout 2: Point of Impact
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2

Ones that I feel no gamer should be without :
Tony Hawk 3 or 4
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

If you want to go for Greatest Hits ($20) titles, try SSX, NBA Street, or Medal Gear Solid 2.

great games that there is a decent chance he doesn't have:

Ace Combat 4 (fighter pilot/shooter)
review: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/games/read.php?ID=5
Jak and Daxter (platformer)
Devil May Cry (action)

each of these should be $20 everywhere.

if you want to just get 1 newer game:

Gran Theft Auto: Vice City!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd also add Ratchet & Clank, which is a game I'm really enjoying right now, it's a great platformer.

As far as buying them, if you're a member of Sam's Club or Costco you can get most of the big titles there for a few bucks less than at the regular B&Ms, where the price is the same store-to-store. You don't really save any money online. but if you buy at Bestbuy.com or circuitcity.com, you get free shipping.

The best place to get a greatest hits game is Best Buy if you have one in your area. Go to the video games section. THey have giftcards with a $5 coupon off any videogame 19.99 and up on the gift card package. Buy the gift card, put $15 value on it, rip off the coupon, go back and buy 19.99 game using your $15.00 gift card and $5 off coupon.

I've checked every Best Buy in the greater Indy area and none have those d@mn gift cards. It drives me nuts. I found one at the register once and could never find where it came from. What I usually do is pick up a Netfix case and open it and take out that top coupon for $5 off any game. They've never stopped me yet and since it says $.00 on the pricetag, I don't think they have anything to complain about.
That said, for many popular full price games, you can get them cheaper at Sam's than at BB with coupon anyway. For GH games, though you're right--that is the cheapest.
