Baldur's Gate 2 collectors edition?
 

I bought the collectors edition but never used the special cd. now I've been trying to finish the game and have checked some websites and it appears the disc installs extra items. Is this correct? How do you then buy the items? In other words what stores carry them?

There is a store in the very first town where you start after you escape and the items are there. it has been a while since I played it but it is right in the beginning of the game and I cant remember the name of the store

The store is in the first square where you start, in amn. I can't remember the name either :).

Then there is another merchant who pops up at the inn in the poor area (you get taken there early on to find work to make money). His main item of note is a +5 everlasting slingshot that you can use to take down the lich (an optional quest later).

However most of the weapons you can buy from these guys are superceded by the ones in the throne of bhaal expansion so if you install that then it's almost not worth bothering forking over for these since you get much better stuff later.
