My heart's not bleeding in the slightest, but yes, it's me. I'm not really a liberal per se except on a few social issues...in other words, i don't think video games or even guns are the cause of most violence...i think poverty is. And all the objective data I've seen points to exponential growth in poverty under republican leadership.

In other words, I'm not a peace monger (as a point of fact, I'm a commissioned officer in the military) or even a Democrat (Independent), I just don't like or trust Republicans or agree with them on much of anything. If I have to choose between a president who gave missiles to Iran and Afghanistan or one who got a BJ under his desk ( ), it's a no brainer...and I vote accordingly.

Which has NOTHING, ZERO, ZILCH to do with the topic at hand, but it would follow that i don't mind violent games in the slightest...and frankly, the violence is merely the framework in which a TERRIFIC game is built. If they built a game this deep in a different world, say, Star Wars or the Matrix or Mario, I'd like it just as much. In other words, the violence isn't the point...though it does make a perfect framework for complete freedom. Who can say they never tried to buttstomp the princess in Mario? Didn't let you do it did it?

there are tons of violent games that i'm not the least bit interested in. please save the stereotypes for the Otter Farm.

Come on guys, this is the video game forum, where you set aside your political leanings and peacefully discuss which console is the best!

Chess,
you can't get the Dodo until you unlock the third Island Shoreshide Vale. When you do go to the airport and the dodo awaits.

i've gotten to the dodo...just haven't tried to fly it yet.

Another night of GTA3...more thoughts and questions:

i got into police missions and forgot to fly the dodo. got two bribes, but i felt cheap doing the pause trick...problem is that i'm doing them so late in the game that everybody is shooting at me making it much harder than it would have been had i done them earlier.

i did the taxi missions for a while but lost interest after about 20. at this point it doesn't feel worth the effort for one super-taxi. however, it was really helping me learn my way around. had i done it early in the game when i didn't know the city at all and people weren't shooting at me, it would have been very helpful.

i think i skipped some of the Joey Leone missions early on...is there no way to get back to them other than starting over?

i finally found the banshee at the auto dealer. i didn't even know there WAS an auto dealer! anyway, finding that earlier would have saved me a lot of time and work, i think.

those new maps are exceedingly helpful...thanks again. for some reason, i found the pack in map hard to follow.

the RC car mission was great!

what do the drugs do other than slow things down?

The best way to play through the game is -

- do 100 Taxi missions in Portland
- do 20 Vigilante missions in Portland
- do 20 Fireman missions in Portland
- do as many Ambulance missions as you can stand (too hard to drive IMO)
- do all the rampage missions
- do all the special stunt jumps
- find all available cars for the Portland garage and emergency vehicles for the ship at the docks
- find all 33 hidden packages and weapons

Do ALL these things before starting your real criminal career. You will have lots of cash and a stockpile of weapons you didn't pay for. Gangs don't hate you yet so you're free to roam around. Then -

- finish each boss's missions before you go to another boss (avoids map clutter and missed missions)
- answer the ringing phones you hear as you drive by. There are 2 in Portland, 1 each in Staunton and Shoreside. This will put you in touch with several bosses who, while not part of the main story, are fun to deal with.

Finish ALL the above before leaving your hideout in Portland behind with the Borgnine parked inside your garage (you may need it someday). By then you will be hated by damn near everybody anyway.

Then follow the same pattern (side missions, then story missions one boss at a time) on the other islands without the Taxi, Ambulance and Fireman missions (unless you just like doing those). There is no garage for selling cars in Staunton, but there IS a Tank to be won :D

Don't get frustrated with the Dodo. It took me nearly 2 hours to learn the handling, but once you do...
The plane is tougher than it looks, and if you land away from the airport, find a straight stretch of road and take off again.

There are 2 Toyz vans in Portland, 1 each in Staunton and Shoreside. The most I got was 11 Mafia cars :)

The adrenaline boosts give you a few minutes of "bullet time" so you get an advantage on more dangerous missions. The effect is cancelled when you get in a car, so use those well.

Sorry about asking a stupid question, but I just started playing too, and I was wondering, the Dodo is in Shoreside Vale, right?

Trigger 11-27-02 06:20 PM

Yeah - it's at the airport. You'll have to read an faq on flying the dodo... it's difficult until you get the hang of it.

Shawn 11-27-02 07:08 PM

Oh well, I'm still in the second city. I'll read the FAQ when I get to the next one. Thanks Trigger.
