Can anyone Confirm 480p for Splinter Cell?

While at EB picking up Splinter Cell and Metroid the guy working there told me that SC didn't have 480p. The box looks as if it doesn't but it is misleading just like the back of MechAssault which leads you to believe that it doesn't support 480p. Someone already confirmed 480p for MechAssault and I was hoping someone here could do the same for SC.

Thanks!

It's gotta be 480p. Very very few Xbox titles are not, and this is a AAA.

It clearly states on the back of the package that it is. If SC looks as good as it does on my "normal" TV, I can't imagine how good it would look HD...

Gromit 11-20-02 07:21 AM

Actually the back of both Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon have the 480p option greyed out.

Kainan 11-20-02 08:00 AM

I confirmed for myself that it IS 480p by checking on my HDTV. The box is marked incorrectly just like MechAssault. It shows certain boxes (options) in bright green which are supposed to be the ones that it contains and HDTV 480p is NOT in bright green like the single player and other ones. I knew the guy had to be wrong. We are talking about one of the biggest titles of the Xbox console here and not some port from the PS2.

Metal Gear Solid Substance also shows 480p greyed out but it comes up 480p on my HDTV system.
Very confusing.

Shows up 480p on my Mits 46807 set. I was a bit discouraged when I looked at the back of the case, but apparently it's a mistake on the publishers part.

They really should fix the back of the cases. I know it shouldn't be that big of a deal but I would pass on an Xbox game if I thought it wasn't in 480p.

I am sooooo glad the finally are putting these grids on X-Box games. However it would be better if they had correct info :-)

Or better yet just make it mandatory that all games run 480p WS 5.1 minimum spec. Then we would know without a doubt.

The grid could just have #of players and Live info then.

Gromit 11-20-02 04:13 PM

They definately need to get it right, but I bet they won't be removing 480p and 5.1 from the back of the box. Since those are 2 features that the Xbox has over practically all PS2 games, they'll want to display it.

Of course, greying it out has the opposite effect. :)

yukon-cornelius 11-21-02 03:23 AM

480p and 5.1 are almost always the default. The only game I know of that can't do 480p is Hitman2.

syphon00 11-21-02 07:43 AM

unfortunately no 16:9 support for SC

Kainan 11-21-02 08:14 AM

yukon-cornelius-

As I stated earlier in the thread while trying to help answer my own question, the first James Bond game on the Xbox is the other NON 480p game. So far there are only these two to my knowledge.

davidlynchfan 11-21-02 03:15 PM

But you don't get 480p on DVD playback right?

Kainan 11-21-02 03:22 PM

But you don't get 480p on DVD playback right?
Correct! Not to mention the fact that mine shows the chroma bug pretty horribly. Still as good or getter than the PS2 playback but I sure was hoping on the progressive scan like they originally stated.

(slaps head) D'oh! I just looked and saw it listed. Didn't know they started the "grid".
