Then again, there is a supposed PS2 price drop happening at the end of the month as well to 150.
Aside from the Japanese price cut, is there any solid support for this rumor, or is it just the usual Xmas speculation crap ?

I've read Circuit City is having a sale, or CompUSA, or everybody will be cutting the price soon.

Me, I got my PS2 in October, and will not be crying about being cheated if the price gets cut, but I am considering EB's trade-in deal of a Dreamcast+10 games for $100 credit against an XBox. If Sony jumps, MS will be forced to match. Trade+$50 beats trade+$100 any day :)

I was planning on doing the trade this weekend, but if there is any weight behind the price cut rumors, I would be sorely tempted to wait.

Decisions, decisions :p

If you spend lots of time gaming, get a PS2. The variety and sheer number of titles will keep you busy.

If you can only fit in one ore two gaming sessions a week and, it appears, you like the Nintendo exclusive stuff, get the Cube.

Personally, I didn't like any of the big titles for the PSX and I doubt the big system sellers for the PS2 would interest me at all. But Super Mario Sunshine? Fricken' awesome.

so here's what i think's gonna happen

purchase the gamecube at target tomorrow plus metroid. i'll get them on two separate receipts, and use the $5 coupon for metroid as well as the $10 pharmacy giftcard on metroid. all in all i spend $155 plus tax.

i won't open the gamecube, but i'll pick up another one at target on black friday with the deal they're doing on that day, then return the previously purchased gamecube a few days later.

if target is doing the supposed deal, then i'll get gamecube, extra controller, metroid prime, smash bros. all for $155 plus tax. seems pretty good.

if ps2 drops as well, maybe i'll splurge and pick it up too.

thanks for all your help. i'll let you know how my happiness turns out.

talton.

It really comes down to which has the most games you want.

For me it's the GC.

I love Nintendo's games. I couldn't do without them. No way I could miss out on Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, etc.

I also think the GC controller is the best ever. It just fits my hands perfectly, and the wave bird is just the icing on the cake.

I also have a PS2 and love it. But if I could only have one it would be the GC for the aformentioned reason.

I guess it's the usual X-Mas speculation crap. I first read about this alleged price cut in Game Pro or Game Informer about a month ago. The supposed price cut is said to be coming from Sony first, and then the others would follow suit.

Even though there's no strong evidence to back it up there's certainly no harm in waiting a week or two and seeing what happens.

For me, there might be. EB has a $100 trade-in deal valid through the end of the month. The deal may not continue into December.

My dilemma -
Trade in my DC+games this weekend and get an XBox for maybe nothing out-of-pocket, depending on how much I get for my trades. I plan on letting them have the SegaGT/JSRF disc to bring the price of the Box down to $175, and I have plenty more than the 10 game minimum to swap

- OR -

Wait until next weekend hoping for a price cut, and get mixed up in the Thanksgiving weekend hell. EB is an hour's drive away and if there is no price cut it will suck to make the trade then.

Fuggit, I'm going this weekend. It wouldn't be the first time I jumped in and mistimed it a little, and I won't sweat it this time if it happens.

I've just done the trade with EB. They changed the deal from N64/Dreamcast/PSone system plus 10 games to be a system + 15 games. Once again, they just changed the deal whenever they wanted. I brought my N64 + 10 games there and got around $80 instead of $100. Too bad. I lost 20 bucks within a day. I should not believe them when being told that the deal valid through the end of the month.

Anyway, I trade-in my N64 for GC (Preowned). They are selling GC preowned for $125 now. I need an advice from you guys. Should I buy GC preowned or buy a new one? They give me 14 days to think about this. Any advice?

Well it depends

1)PS2 - Great library, nice system. GTA.
Great overall package. 5.1 sound. A very good 1 player system.

2)Gamecube - Smaller library, AAA games from the big N. Mario, Zelda and Metroid. AS well as SSBM. SEGA makes some good games for em too.
The cube is THE party system. There is no way to better spend a night drinking with friends than Mario Party 4. Or SSBM. Or WMX8

well thanks again everybody.

i got the gamecube and am having tons of fun already. i waited until black friday and overall got a killer deal.

i ended up getting:

Gamecube, Smash Bros., Sunshine, Road Rage, Eternal Darkness, and Metroid, plus wireless controller, and 251 mem card - all for about 250 bucks. seems pretty good to me. thanks again.

And..........

Xmas = Xbox

Makes sense! Doesn't it?

theneobez 11-30-02 01:39 PM

So is the price drop of the ps2 before the year's end out of the question now?
