Pricematch TRU Xbox deal?

Has anyone successfully pricematched this weeks Toys-R-Us Xbox or PS2 deal? I am ready to head out the door to buy this thing but going into TRU scares me and I have to go to BB anyway.

plmk if you've been successful.

Usually you can't price match "deals", at least in my experience.

After a nightmare of an afternoon at BestBuy, I managed to get them to pricematch the Toys-R-Us deal.

The deal is:
XBOX Bundle Pack - includes console, controller, 2 Sega games, PLUS: NFL Fever 2003 game, Spider-Man game, and extra controller $249.96

Okay. I went online this morning and used my $25 GC from the purchase of Band of Brothers on DVD and bought a keyboard. I asked for store pickup. 3 hours later, the e-mail indicating that my store pickup was ready, I went down to BB to pick it up. 20 minutes in line waiting for service, I am finally called over. I present my confirmation e-mail along with the circular from Toys-R-Us stating that I would like to price match.

The CSR (HA! CSR my arse) tells me that they will have to 1. see if they have the items in stock (they did, I already checked) 2. call TRU to see if they have it in stock. (unknown but would save me a trip to TRU which is 10 miles away.)

So, she proceeds to get my keyboard, only my keyboard isn't there. She dispatches CSR Lackey #1 to get one from the floor (oops, there are no more) She calls back to Inventory, I sit.

20 minutes later...
She calls back to Inventory again and walks back there with CSR Lackey #2

15 minutes later...
"Gee, we don't know how this happened but that keyboard is not in the store, would you like to pick another model?"

Nope, I want the M$ Natural Multimedia Pro. The next comparable model is their wireless keyboard mouse combo for $60 more than my model.

She wanders off to talk to Computer Dept Lackey #1 who refers her to Computer Dept Lackey #2, I follow them around the computer accessory dept for 10 minutes, they walk over to where my kybd is supposed to be then back to the CSR desk and rifle through all the cabinets.

10 minutes later...

"Sir, we would be willing to order your keyboard online and have it shipped to you for FREE!"

No thanks, it was just an impulse purchase, how about store credit for the Xbox bundle?

"sorry, we can't do that. We can refund your credit card though"
CSR - "um, no we can't, it was $25 on GC"

"Hrmm, how about we split the difference on the $99 combo?"

That's okay, well, heck, let's get this over with, fine, give me the wireless.

So, I take my new kybd to the counter, then the CSR tells me that she thinks she can come up with a method to get me store credit if I would just have a seat over there

15 minutes later...
Sir?
paperwork
paperwork
paperwork
"Okay, let's call TRU..... nah, you've been here a long time"
%&@#$( @#$&*( #@$&!&!&*# Bestbuy #$@ #$@(#$*&

We start ringing things up and she goes into her product replacement schpiel. I look over at the guy at the next counter and we both
No thanks.
"But sir, I replaced my PS2 twice"

No thanks.
"It's just like getting $200 credit, you can spend it on anything."

No thanks.
"Well, here, sign your receipt. here's your stuff."

I spent 2 hours in there this afternoon on their screw up and they made me feel like the bad guy.

For me, unless it is something VERY significant, I am through with pricematching, it is way too much of a hassle.

Nothing at all, except:
1. I was primarily at BB for the keyboard
2. TRU is right next door to a very busy mall and I seriously doubted that they had anymore of these in stock at that late hour.
3. 10 mile (10 minute) if you live in Middleofnowhere, Outoftheway Cty, BigEmptyState 10 miles in PDX is more like 20 minutes

Haha, well it reminds me of what happens to me all the time. I'll do something like what seems should be quicker and in the end it kicks my ass. Like getting in line with one person vs a line with 3 people, and the one person ends up having major serious problems and takes an hour to checkout.

(congrats on your purchase though, now go out and get XBL it's da bomb!)

Holy Cow! I bought my X-Box at launch for $299 for just the system and it seems like a better deal than what you had to go thru. ;-)

I have had similar experiences with PM'ing. Funny how they all brag about "low price guarantee" and they make you miserable when you do it.

It makes me wonder if I actually ever bought the warranty if they would honor it or claim some technicality.

Circuit City (Ralph @ Southlake Mall) pricematched with the 110% guarantee. They also gave me an offical XBOX Controller S instead of the knockoff Controller. The $4.99 Demo disc also included.

Starting tomorrow, the Gamecube 110% Pricematch might be a real good deal. They will give you $20 off Metroid with a Gamecube purchase. Plus you could sell Scooby Doo for ~$30 on e-bay. Therefore, you could get Gamecube, Extra Controller, Memory Card, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid for under $190 net.
