Computer Games Requirement?

I been playing video games only on cosoles but I have never tried using my computer to play video games with it.

What are the requirments to play games in my computer?

Do I need a special program to play?

Here's a few things you'll need:

Sound card (if you want to hear anything)
Graphics card (if you want to play 3D games this is a must)
Sufficient processor speed, RAM, HD space etc.

These will differ depending on what type of games you want to play. Pick up a game and look at the minimum and recommened requirements printed on the box.

wait,... are you asking whether you can play games from a certain platform, ie PS 2 and Xbox on a computer? I don't really think that its possible, although the program Bleem enabled some PS1 games to be played on a PC.

If you are just looking into playing games in general, just look at the system requirements on the box of some games that spark your attention. Look for the "recommended requirements" since the normal game requirements aren't often enough to run the game well.

What are the best brand out there for a sound card and a graphics card? What are the prices?

I have a pentium III. What are the requirements for RAM and HD space for games like Medal Of Honor or Unreal Tournament ?

MOH: AA runs fine on a P3. You'll want at least 128 MB of RAM and a 32 MB video card. It probably takes 1 Gig of HD space to install.

Go to www.voodoopc.com and spend lots of money.

get the audigy 2 with 6.1 surround and 24bit audio!!! Its for around $99 or less.. and then get a Geforce 4 ti, which depending on the version can run from 150 up.

Do you have all day? Because that's how long this argument will go on.

Actually though, GeForce cards a generally regarded very highly. I have a GeForce II 64 meg card and I can run both of these games with no problem.

Soundsblaster cards are very popular. I have a Turtle beach card that works great. Check sites loke CDW.com for price info.

CDW is overpriced.

If you wanna buy parts for a decent price from a company that is trustworthy - I buy parts from www.newegg.com

Sound - Soundblaster Audigy is a good choice
Video - GeForce 4 Ti 4400 by Gainward can be overclocked to 4600 speeds and is reasonably priced. Also - there are a handful of companies making cards based in ATI's newest 9700 chipset... that's what you want if you want the best.
Motherboard/Processor - AMD Athlon XP/Via KT400 or Intel Pentium 4/850E 533FSB. AMD is cheaper and more bang for the buck, but right now P4's fastest beats AMDs fastest.
That's all you need really... you'll be future proof for at least a few years.

Thanks for the info.

I'm guessing the whole "over-clocking" thing might be beyond our friend kar10 here. :)

Trigger 11-15-02 05:03 PM

That's why I suggested the Gainward - it's overclocking tools are super easy.
