Should I keep my unopened PS2?
Background: I'm a big Xbox fan and gamer, with no plans to abandon it as my primary game platform. But I'm not biased against any other platform and really want to play Vice City. Also, I have several hundred dollars in various store credits/gift cards. I see three options for myself.
1 - Keep the PS2 I just bought with my store credit, and use it to enjoy Vice City and the possible other PS exclusive games that I really want. Also, it could serve as the DVD player at my girlfriend's.
2 - Return it and buy a 2nd Xbox. Use it as the DVD player at my girlfriend's, have it for those rare but possibly very fun system link parties, and not get myself confused with multiple platforms and options. Besides, Vice City will eventually come out for the PC, right?
3 - Get the silly idea of owning 2 game systems out of my head and use the credits to buy all the great new Xbox games out or on the way out.
I've been torturing myself with these options for weeks now....any input? Thanks!

Honestly, I'd check release calendars and make sure there is enough PS2 gaming coming that you'll be interested in. I personally love my PS2 and Xbox both, but I know not everyone would play the same games as me.
Also, not sure if this is an option, but why not a GameCube? I know several people have gone the Xbox/GameCube route, as it provides two very different platforms for gaming.

It's not like you're starving for games, right? So wait until PS2 drops in price and Vice City is on discount, then buy them. That way, you get to play those games AND you get more left over for your X-Box or whatever. You've got the luxury of time.

Thanks all, I'm leaning towards ipkevin's advice, since I do have plenty of games and am in no rush. Although I did find Vice City for $35 and the PS2 I bought includes a $50 accessory package. Hmmmm...decisions decisions
I see that no one picked option #2, buying a second Xbox. This was actually my first choice until I saw Vice City. I guess it would be silly to have 2 xboxes......

I'd say keep it. Sounds like you got a good deal on it, and that way you have two different consoles and more selection. I currently have a GC right now, but would love to have a second console (if I had the $$$ and the time). With the PS2 you will have the option of picking up the "greatest hits" series games for cheap, but be able to pick up those games that are either X-Box exclusive or have a port that may have additional content on the X-Box. The best of both worlds.

Heres my advice (a video game collector). . Get the PS2. You can still buy alot of games if you just shop smart. I'll give you some reccomendations and pointers.
If you have a membership at SAMS club you can get MANY sorta older but not TOO old very popular and fun games for like $18.98 BRAND NEW.
They have BALDUR'S GATE DARK ALLIENCE, Kings Field IV, Project Ego, and many others.
At Toys 'R Us you can get many brand new $19.99 titles like (good ones too). . Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2, Escape from Monkey Island, Grandia II, Jak and Daxter, Gauntlet Dark Legacy (talk about party games), SSX Snowboarding, Fantavision, ATV Offroad Fury, Metal Gear Solid. . Just too many to list.
And to top it off if you are even more patient and have time on your hands. You can hunt down some INCREDIBLE deals on PS2 games on EBAY. Cause right now the X-box and GameCube are newer and many of their games are still 49.99. So right now, the PS2 is the way to go for a great library and many available cheap great games.
::wipes brow:: . . Whew.

Get the PS2, its silly to have 2 of the same system in this generation of consoles. You can get greatest hits titles, which are awesome in themselves, for only $19.99. Or you could get a Gamecube and one game for the price of the PS2.

I'd lean towards the PS2, but I have a friend that has 2 Xboxes, per my advice. He has one that is modded so he can play emulators (MAME and older console games), and he has an unmodded one so he can still play Live and not worry about being banned because he upgrades the hard drive or something that MS can detect and do who knows what to. He figured it was worth it when I told him I paid $50 each for Sega GT and Jet Set Radio Future. If I didn't already have those games I would've done the same.
