Why hasn't there been a Legend of Zelda Movie?

Watching that new zelda trailer had me wondering why they have not yet come with a movie based on this game. The game would be more feasible to make because of special effects being so advanced and it would already have a huge following. If they make this game styled like Lord of the Rings maybe it could be a great hit. I would really like to see a movie based on this game. It already has a good storyline behind. Please post ideas and comments. I would love to know if people think it would be a good idea or not.

as long as tom cruise isn't playing link, i'm all for it. (it'd be way too much like a legend rehash then)

A ZELDA movie would rock, if done right of course.
Ok here is my fantasy casting:

Zelda: Kate Winslet

Link: Orlando Bloom

Ganondorf: Anthony Hopkins

Did we all forget the Super Mario Bros movie? Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone.

When I played Ocarina of Time I was wondering the same thing. I think this game would be perfect to turn into a movie.

They tried to do this, but Haley Joel Osment didn't like the tights. He also didn't like that all of his dialogue was "Oh! Ah! Ugh!"

Good point...why not animated in the vein of the new game? They could make it CGI cell-shaded. Then we wouldn't have to worry about anyone ruining the Zelda image, as it could be right in line with what Nintendo is churning out.

And I think it would definitely be more successful than the FF movie. A LOTR for children, how could that go wrong?

thank god there hasn't been a movie yet .

The prospect of the zelda movie definitely sounds like a neat idea, but the past has too many bad memories, i.e. Final Fantasy the spririts within, Super Mario Bros., Resident Evil (I actually did not see that one). Its hard to compress 30-50 hour games into 2 hours and still live up to the games, i just know they'll screw it up somehow, it is the law. Thats not to say there will never be a good movie based on a game, it could be done, ...but so far no one has done it yet.

The cartoon series was pretty good though, anyone remember that one? I used to watch it every week.

The cartoon was actually pretty decent from what I remember. The worst videogame movie has to be street fighter by a landslide. I do think that the movie could be made well if it has a good director behind it not some B movie director. As soon as I saw Lord of the Rings and Orlando Bloom as an elf I thought he might be the perfect one to play Link (especially looking at that picture posted in this thread). I do wish someone would make this movie but I know if someone does it probably will be horribly butchered.
