Re: Splinter Cell (demo) sucks (needs some work)

I never played the demo, so I figured I'd play with the release for a few days and then see what I thought about the problems you reported. A few agreements, many disagreements. I'm now up to level 5 (not including the training level) playing on the hard difficulty.

The following is just my opinion and isn't saying that everyone must agree with me.

1) Beautiful graphics, but INSANE clipping. There is way too much "bling bling" in this game, as everything reflects like chrome.
Only one time in one spot did I see a clipping problem. I haven't seen the chrome problem either. The only problem I have had with the graphics is the number of jaggies in the oil rig level.

2) There is absolutely nothing to interact with, except for cans and bottles.
There light switches, but not much else like that. But interacting in this game is a lot different. You can climb over/on/around/etc just about anything. For me, that makes it have a ton of interaction.

3) The wall jump looks retarded.
I've only used it a handful of times, but I think it looks fine so far.

4) This game cannot revolve around stealth. For instance, I take out the ONLY guard around, hide his body in an alley. There is NO ONE around, as soon as I walk away, "A BODY HAS BEEN FOUND!" and the alarm is sounded. This has happened time and time again.
If you enter a new area and you didn't hide a body well enough in the previous area, you'll get an alarm. Go back and hide it better, then re-enter the new area. Hide it in dark spots w/ no cameras and then turn off the lights if applicable.

5) Stealth door opening is utterly useless.
I don't understand this complaint... In real life, if you do that, you're not going to see much either. Would you rather it wasn't in the game and they gave you less control? Not I.

6) Heat vision hasn't even shown up a guard when he was right in front of me, bringing about death.
It isn't efffective from long range, probably because things are too far away to be giving off heat that can be detected. Short to mid range, it seems very effective to me.

7) I have unloaded 10+ bullets directly into guards numerous times before they die. This includes multiple head shots.
I had to think about this one for a bit. They do take a bunch of body shots before dying, but then again, so does my character. One shot to the head kills everytime though, so I don't have a problem with it. BTW, your shots aren't guaranteed to go into the dead center of the crosshair. It will go somewhere within the width and height of the crosshair. When you run/walk/aren't crouched/etc, the crosshair will be bigger. I like this a lot. Realism.

8) The sound effects suck, really bad. I throw an empty can into a TV, it makes a heavy *THUD* sound. I whack a guy in the head with my gun, it makes a soft *bump* sound.
They must have fixed this in the time from the demo to release, because they're great now.

9) On other occasions, I swing doors open and go running in, guards don't even hear me. I go into a room with two guys at a computer. I take one hostage and he yells, but the other guy doesn't even notice, and keeps typing.
The type of surface you're walking/running on and the amount of light on the doorway are the determining factors. Seems good to me.

10) Enemy AI is crap. One enemy repeatedly fired at me through bulletproof glass.
There are some problems with AI, like if you run into a darkened dead end and the enemy watches you run there, he'll sometimes get lost because the dead end is dark. That is my only AI complaint.

11) You can't close doors - they close themselves. You can't pick up a body and open a door. You can't hold your gun and open a door. You can't take ammo from a guard.
I don't like the doors closing automatically either. It is annoying. As is not being able to take ammo from guards. Of course, their guns aren't silenced, so I wouldn't want their ammo. But I should probably still have the option. Not being able to open a door while carrying a 220 pound person doesn't seem like an issue to me.

12) You can't punch or kick, wtf. If you run out of ammo and can't find a bottle, then you're helpless.
Yeah I don't like this either. I don't like how you can't try to grab someone while they're facing you and firing either.

13) Phone ringing, I can't answer it. I shoot it to shut it up - takes 3 point blank shots....
I haven't shot phones, so I don't know how many times it takes, but I know I wouldn't want to answer the phone. What would I say? "Please don't come to the room that you just called. I'm not really your enemy."
