Should I use a particular brand of cables for my PS2?

I'm looking to upgrade the audio/video cables for my Playstation 2 so that I can use the DTS feature on certain PS2 games. (Yes, Vice City is one of them)

I've seen a few Component Cables and TOSlink cables for the PS2 on sale on ebay. However, they are not from Monster - who is probably the most widely recognized suppiler for high end cables for the PS2 and home theater. My question is: Should I go for the Monster brand of Component and TOSlink cables or would any of the PS2 compatible Component and TOSlink cables work just as well?

Monster cables are a rip off. Unless you're running 100+ ft of cable, you won't notice a difference between high end cables and those you buy at radioshack of the same type.

The TOSlink (optical cables) don't have to be specifically for the PS2 - any optical cable will work. Check out partsexpress.com, you should be able to find some good deals on optical cable. I wouldn't bother with the monster component cables either, I have the Sony brand and they work fine (you can also get them for $20 at Best Buy if you use the $5 EGM coupon). Monster cables are good quality but they're really overpriced...

That's exactly right. TOSlink and digital coax cables transfer digital signals (all 1's and 0's), so you either get it or you don't. There's no need to pay inflated prices on these audio cables.

monster are still the best. They offer less "digital jitter".
