Question: PS2 DVD Remote Control Driver Upgrade

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I'm selling my Sony PS2 remote control on eBay and one of the bidders asked me this question about the driver upgrade that comes with the remote kit:

Would the dvd upgrade allow me to play VCDs or burned DVDs?

Personally, I have no idea -- does anyone else here maybe know?

i am pretty sure no to vcd's. not sure on the burned dvd's however.
