how to put Mp3s onto XBOX

Put the cd in the Xbox then hit Copy.

In my experiance, most CD-R's can't be read by the XBox, however, quite a few CD-RW's can be. What I would do, is buy a CD-RW, then using your PC, burn the MP3's as CD Audio to the CD (This is extremely easy with Nero), put it in the XBox, and it should start playing the music automatically. At the bottom, should be an option to "copy". Select that, enter a playlist name, select the tracks to copy and enjoy. Just erase the disc and start over.

Somewhere out there in internet-land is a list of CD-R/RWs that the Xbox can read. No idea where it is, though. Back when I was putting all my mp3s on my Xbox, I would just use any mp3-to-cd burner (one that converts the files to .cd(?) format), stick it in my Xbox and rip them.

If you have MP3s you have to convert them to wav files and burn them as an audio cd. The CD-R has to work in the Xbox as well. You can't directly copy mps or windows media files onto the xbox.

All you have to do to burn MP3s or copies of CDs is to use a CD-RW instead of a CD-R.

Yes, remember that xbox reads audio cd's, not data cd's. So remember to burn in audio mode instead of data mode.

So I can only use certain CD-R and CD-RWs right? But I can only rip WAV files? Meaning, I can't get mp3s onto the XBOX because I can only rip WAV files. Unless, the XBOX encodes into MP3 format.
??

The problem is burning programs like Nero consider MP3s data rather than audio.

Yes, but you can set Nero to burn an audio CD that will play in a car/home CD player rather than as a data CD.

Music files are stored on the XBox in wma format. In order to get wma files on the XBox, you need to insert an audio CD and select the 'Copy' command inside the XBox. Unfortunately, there is not a direct or easy way to copy mp3 files from your computer directly to the XBox.

As a side note, is anyone miffed that you cannot insert a music CD and have the XBox look up the CD information from an online CD database so that track information is automatically entered? This seems such a trivial task, but yet Microsoft did not see fit to add it.

Yes, like Lampei said, you pick which mode you want to copy at.

In Nero, there is a selection screen that pops up and all you do is pick audio cd, then drag and drop whatever mp3's/wav's you want to copy. Then it converts those files to audio tracks and burns.

In CDRwin, all you do is goto load tracks and select the appropriate mp3's/wav's then start recording..

I only use the 2 above programs but I believe that Easy CD Creator is similar to Nero where you select what type of cd you are creating.

mytzplyx, as long you burn your music files into the above format, then the xbox will read it.

arent there any hacks so that you can copy using a cat-5 cable?

I would be interested in this too as I already have my computer and Xbox hooked together through a router. I would think there should be some way to do this, but havn't found any info on it yet.

Yes, with certain programmable modchips, you can pretty much make your xbox network with your computer, play mp3s, divx, vcds, emulators, etc.

Not really mytzplyx. Yes you have to convert your .mp3s to cd audio and burn them to a CD-RW. But when you put the CD-RW in the xbox it will convert it down to wma files which are microsoft's version of .mp3. So the cd audio files are being compressed by the xbox when it's rips the cd.

You aren't restricted to only use wav files on your audio cd. You can put mp3's on it to.

What happens when you are creating an AUDIO CD is that the mp3's you select are converted to cd audio format. So it's not actually putting the MP3 onto the cd. It's recording in MODE 2. And you're not limited by space of the cd-r. You're limited by how many minutes the cd-r holds (such as 74 or 80 minutes).

But when you are creating an MP3 CD, you are creating an DATA cd. Not an audio cd.
