KB Toys Sale (20% off $100+)

If you're thinking about buying any games anytime soon, do yourself a favor and wait until this Thursday. KB Toys B&Ms are starting a sale where you save 20% on anything in the store if you buy over $100 worth of stuff (not including consoles or gift cards). So save up and buy 4 or 5 games at once and get em all for 20% off. It'll only go on through the weekend so be sure not to miss it.

bump

The promotion starts today:
http://www3.kbkids.com/1007/1b.htm

I'm headed out in a few to see if they have NBA Live 2003 and Timesplitters...Tax isn't included in the offer, so hopefully they'll have something for under a dollar that I can buy to push the total over $100.

Thanks for the heads up, Scheherazade.

I stopped by at lunch to pick up Whacked and NBA2K3 (yes I'm a beta tester). It came up $0.02 short so I picked up some casino playing cards for a buck. Apparently you get a stamp in the "Toy Club" for every $25 you spend. After 4 stamps, you get 20% off your next purchase (no expiration). Pretty sweet deal. They don't take your name, so I imagine if you were to go back later you could do the deal all over again (in case you have remorse over not buying more games the first time).....

And yes I bought Whacked because after playing it last night, I thought it would be great to have the full version for parties.

What's KBToys trade in policy? ....if I buy some games to take advantage of this deal (just for the sake of doing so), can I later trade these games in for ones I really want when they're released?

I don't know, but my gut tells me that KB isn't liberal like EB. KB doesn't have a secondary market for used/opened games like EB does. I think once you buy and open, you're done.

The back of my receipt says you have 30 days to return or exchange video games with a receipt. Opened software or items without a receipt can only be exchanged for the same title.

I bought the playstation 2 version of timesplitters 2, but I really want the xbox version. So, I'm going to exchange my copy when the xbox version comes out.

I really wasn't planning on opening them... just buying something, leaving it unopened, then trading it in after a few months for say.... Zelda or Resident Evil 0.

I would think that they would look at your receipt, and just refund you the money. Although that would be kind of tricky... if you bought two games, and returned one, would they try to get back the 20% discount too? and then add on the 10% one? Confusing.

Anyway, if you can trade it in later on, I'm buying a bunch of games just to get Smackdown and other stuff later. It's even better than that 5 dollar deal at BestBuy...

I was there today and got NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 and Kingdom Hearts. However, several games are marked higher than MSRP (NFS was $55). I went ahead and got it anyway, as it still came up cheaper w/ discount than buying it anywhere else, but its just a heads up.

Yeah, Kingdom Hearts is "on sale" for 49.99, down from 55 or so. (red slash through price). KB is notorious for overcharging on things, though I would say 80% of the store is highly discounted (not including games). Anyway, they have all the games behind the counter, but the boxes in the front, so you can look at them. If you don't see the game you want, be sure to ask... the boxes are usually a mess, and some of the newer games aren't put out yet.

They do have (for PS2):
Timesplitters 2
Ty the Tasmanian Devil
NHL 2003 (is Sega making one too?)
NBA Live 2003
NBA 2K3
the new NFS

Those, I think, are the newest titles. I don't think they get any of the more violent games. I haven't seen Tribes there, and though I've seen ads for Socom, I haven't seen it there. They also have dummy boxes for GTA:VC and the new Smackdown, with pricetags, but they aren't in.

Also don't be fooled! The flyer that they have by the boxes announces that the NBA games are coming out Oct. 30, which is the old release date. Also, the older sports games are on sale, and sometimes they have stickers covering the year on the cover of the box! Make sure you get the 2003 versions...

Anyway, great deal.

Why?

What they do is give you 20% off your 100 dollar purchase. They then give you a full Toy Club card, which gives you 20% off another purchase (even though you didn't really spend 100 dollars). It doesn't matter if you have another card.

I do have a KB Club question, though. It says that the initial purchase can't be a game system (hardware). Can the second 20% off purchase include hardware? Also, what prevents people from buying stuff, returning it, and keeping the 20% off card?

Here's all the deals on KB's policies.

No discounts ever at all on consoles. We don't make any money on them so there are no discounts or promotions that will deal with them. This also goes for Gift Cards.

You can only return unopened software for a refund and that's within 30 days with a receipt. Any opened software is only exchangable for the same exact title. KB doesn't do any trade-ins, but with more and more stores going to the live video wall that might change... it's a suggestion I have for them anyway

And yes, even after they've told us several times that we're going to be competitive, some titles are still slipping through at $2 - $5 over MSRP. It isn't very many, so please don't let that keep you from checking a KB for your video needs. I believe Need For Speed was priced like this due to an earlier deal where you got $10 off another game $30 or more when purchasing it. And remember, 20% and even 10% off $55 is still cheaper than 0% off $50

The 10% off $50 and 20% off $100 is all before taxes. Two 49.99 games won't cut it, grab a cowtail or a nerds rope to make it over You also, on top of this discount, get stamps on your toy club card for the amount of the purchase after the discount and before tax.

For those who don't know about the toy club, you get a card with 4 spaces for stamps. Each $25 you spend before tax gets you a stamp on the card. With your first stamp you also get a bonus stamp, so you're really only needing 3 to fill a card. Once you fill up that card you can use it to get 20% off your entire purchase excluding consoles, gift cards, internet purchases, and any purchase on the day after thanksgiving. So by buying 2 games at $49 or so at 20% off you're also getting a full Toy Club card that will get you 20% off again somewhere down the road even after this sale is over.

The good thing about the Toy Club and the 20% off $100+ deals is they are good on stuff already on sale. Find something that's already 25% off and you can get it for 25% off and then 20% off of that. And no, you can't use a Toy Club card along with the 20% off $100 or more.

Your best bet to take full advantage of this is to just buy as much as you can over $100 and get 20% off of it all. This will also net you toy club stamps which you can then use at any time (except the day after thanksgiving) to get 20% off any purchase. The cards have no expiration date.

Keep in mind, you only get a bonus stamp on new cards on first purchases. What this means is if you spend $200 all in one go, you'll get a full card with 3 stamps plus a bonus and then a second card with 4 stamps and a third with 1 stamp. While, on the otherhand, if you spend $100 two times, you'll get 2 full cards with the bonus stamp, plus 2 more on another card, thus netting you 1 more stamp than before. Basically what I'm saying is, try and break up purchases to get bonus stamps so you don't have to spend that $25 for stamps more than you have to.

Rememeber this sale ENDS Sunday the 13th... or is it Monday, it might be Monday but go by Sunday to keep safe. I work there and still picked up NFS and LOTR to take advantage of this deal because all we normally get is 10% and we can't get that on sale items. Unfortunately we can't do the Toy Club

Anywho, go out and save yourselve's some money And remember, even after this is over we still have the Toy Club. If you're going to pay $50 for a game anyway, you may as well get stamps for it and get 20% off every third game you buy!

As for preventing people from buying stuff, returning it, and keeping the card... the cashier SHOULD be stamping receipts with the toy club stamp that people have earned stamps on. A return with a stamped recepit would require the stamped toy club card as well. The same thing goes with the bonus stamps, the cashier should be writing a 'B' next to the bonus stamp to keep people from spending $25 twice with two different cards and putting them together to have one complete card.
