So honestly, is a XBOX price-drop realistic?

With the Rare move and NBA 2K3 and such looking fabulous on the XBOX, I'm really considering looking into one, especially with Halo 2 on the horizon as well.

Does anyone have credible knowledge for a drop in the price of the XBOX by next summer? I'm assuming it would be $149, but this just seems like Mircosoft would be losing a ton of money. Then again, it seems like they have more than enough to spare.

I doubt it... if a price drop was due, we wouldn't hear about it until at least E3 next year. I just don't think a price drop is in the cards anytime soon. 200 bucks isn't that much for the Xbox - I just spent 200 bucks on one game.

I am hoping for some kind of a package deal (like additional controllers/or a packin game) to make the package sweeter.

With MS anything is possible. If they think it would boost sales I think they might try another price drop.

I know they are already working on ways to lower the cost of making the Xbox.

What's an extra $49 dollars? Also Mike_AA, if you buy an XBOX now you get a Free DVD adapter. Dude I just took the plunge last week and I must say HALO is amazing! Get a few buddies over and kick some alien @ss in Co-op mode! Alot of fun!

I don't believe so. Doing so wou force Nintendo to drop to $99, which they can w/o losing money on the sale.

I forget the technical term, but there is something phycological about certain price points. I believe if the GC was less then 100 the demand would sky rocket. Hell the GBA is 70 bucks.

I'm with Gallant, I don't see any of the systems dropping in price again until next fall. There's just really no reason too. They just dropped in price, and dropping again would mean taking bigger losses on each console sold, when the consoles will probably sell fine this holiday season at the current prices.

I'm just adding disclaimers wherever I deem it necessary, so there are no hidden biases.

And I don't know how much I'd be able to help you with Miami proper, I've only been down there half a dozen times. I actually live in a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, which I consider to be a suburb of Miami, hence my location.

I read that Nintendo moved production of Gamecube systems from Japan to China. Similarly, Microsoft is cutting costs by switching vendors for various components in the system. Unfortunately, it seems that each price drop forces a potential downgrade in the build quality. I hope this isn't the case, as I'd rather pay a few extra bucks than have a drive go out quickly.
