How do you buy your video game?

I just want to get a sense of what is the most common way people buy new video game for any console. Whether through retail, internet, or other method? And what is the average prcie people pay for brand new game.

Thanks

Generally, with cash, from a store, and the price they ask..... ;)

I get them from a B&M store, and pay the retail price(unless I have something to trade to take some of the edge off). So about $50(depends on taxes).

internet. 49.99. usually... living in a hicktown nowhere near a realtown kinda stinks..

jw2299 09-23-02 06:54 PM

With the exception of greatest hits titles, and SOCOM, I haven't bought a new game in years. I've had a great deal of luck on Ebay, and we have a lot of used game stores in my area. I guess I'm kind of lucky that way.

I usually keep about 10 games on hand at any given time, but they're always rotating through. I have so much luck finding them because no matter how high a rating a game has, or how good it is, they're always someone who hates it, and gets rid of it quickly.

i rarely pay retail. I'll go the used game route (couple of cool used game stores in the area) if i cant find used i try to maximize my savings. coupon codes, deals from magizines, sales what have you.
retail is not an option

Well, I work at Sierra, and I know people at Electronic Arts and Nintendo. I usualy get them through my network of friends and pay about 10-20 bucks per game.

When I get home, I'll have Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing waiting for me for about 40 bucks.

costanza187 09-23-02 07:44 PM

go to the store and buy it...im too impatient to use the net

sniper308 09-23-02 09:04 PM

I always check out this site for deals. Lately the deal has been take anybody's ad & PM at Best Buy & use one of the $5 off coupons out of EGM or one of the other free mags I'm getting by responding to offers posted here. Cash is tight now, though, so I'll be asking for Metroid Prime & a few others for Christmas. :D

ottolam 09-23-02 10:16 PM

Bought all my games from Best Buy with the $5 off coupons in EGM and GamePro magazines.

with this crazy thing called currancy. It works like this, value is assigned to certain bills. the higher the number the higher the value. and you can exchange these bills for goods and services. Video games being a good, it would fall under that classification and hench, be bought. :)

I hope that helped. ;)

in all reality, I rarely buy games now a days since I stick to one for some time. but when I do, I usually go with lowest price like fry's or go to my friend who works at a game store.

evenflow 09-23-02 10:51 PM

I rarely buy games at retail price. The only game I've bought at retail price was Madden 2003 but I got it online without tax and it was next day air shipping for free.

Ofentimes, Sam's Club has the bigger PS2 titles for a few bucks less than retail. It sucks that there are so few games on sale the week they come out. It's very different than DVD releases, unfortunately.

Cuman 09-24-02 12:13 AM

Usually at me local mom and pop game store. Granted they ususally get new releases a day or two after the larger B&M stores, but its a few bucks cheaper and they buy and sell used stuff. That and i used to work at a small import/domestic game store that died cuz of all the larger stores, so gotta support the little guy when i can.

viscera 09-24-02 01:37 AM

I just like to buy them used. I'll buy it new if I am very excited about it though. I buy most of the WWE games new, I made a mistake with Wrestlemania X-8 for GC though, it was a bust in my opinion. So I'll be a little more carefull next time.

darkside 09-24-02 01:46 AM

I've been spending full price lately, but that's only because I built up about $300 worth of store credit at EB by taking advantage of the DVD and Video Game trade in deals a couple of months ago. I usually wait for a price drop otherwise. If I'm paying cash I like to wait till the game is $30 or less. There are exceptions. Some games are worth $50, but not many.

MrKen 09-24-02 11:33 AM

I buy a lot of used games at EB, but they haven't had a big sale recently. Mostly I get older titles, but I'll pick up new AAA occasionally. They already had Mario Sunshine used last Friday, which is freakin crazy.

I'm picking up the first Animal Crossing I see there.

Trigger 09-24-02 11:58 AM

Lately I've just been buying from half.com. I also buy from bestbuy when there's a sale or coupons or something. I hate paying full price. I just got SegaGT for 30 bucks shipped brand new cuz I "preordered" from half.com. :)

BigDave 09-24-02 12:05 PM

I usually buy my games at Best Buy with one of those $5 coupons from the gaming magazines.

SuperJim88 09-24-02 12:24 PM

The $5 coupons most of you talked about using it, it really ended up covers only tax doesn't it? Like for $50 games the tax is just about $5, so the coupon really didn't do much but simply help you purchase the game tax free.......

sniper308 09-24-02 02:29 PM

Tax is about 5% here in IN so, it covers about another $2.50. Also, I usually PM to the best deal around and then get the $5 on top of that.

Feneant 09-24-02 05:25 PM

I rarely play game, I normally beta test (not piracy, legi beta test) or demo it (such as UT2K3) which always gives me plenty of time to play to get nice and bored or it. If, by some chance, the game keeps me interested over that period, I will buy it. This said, the last game I bought was about 2 years ago.

bmello 09-25-02 08:20 AM

There are used CD/DVD stores around town that sell brand new releases for $29.99, some at $34.99. The older titles can be had for $9.99 to $19.99. I own a PS2 and the only title I paid MSRP for was GTA3. The only other title I wil probably pay MSRP for is GTA Vice. :D

goLUCKY 09-25-02 08:25 AM

Unfortunately I have paid full retail for most of my games. :(

flair 09-25-02 01:15 PM

I usually just go to best buy or target and on an impulse ill buy a game or two. I dont mind paying an extra couple dollars to have it in my hands. I live in the boonies so i cant really go hunting for deals either.

Mike_AA 09-25-02 01:40 PM

eBay, Internet or EB pretty much.
