Info about Xbox remote.

Just figured something out and I thought I would share. Some of you probably already know, but anyway.

I lost my Xbox DVD remote. Don't know if the dog ate it or what, but I can't find it and wanted to watch a DVD on it. My Sony Palm has a remote program and I tried to see if I could use it. Set it up for an RCA DVD player and it worked on the main functions, though I can't access the display menu.

So if you need an emergency remote the DVD player in the Xbox is apparently an RCA one.

The DVD player in the Xbox isn't an RCA - it's a DVD Rom drive like you would find in a PC and RCA doesn't really make those. The dongle might have been made using RCA IR frequencies or something... I'm talking over my own head, so don't quote me on that. :)

the remote looks like every other rca remote made in the past 3 or 4 years. So by this notion, i assume that the remote is actually made by rca for microsoft.

That's probably more like it.

All I know is it works. I still can't find the damn Xbox remote.

The Remote IS made by RCA. Just like RCA makes the Xport TVs and the Universal Remote for the Xport TV and Xbox all in one.

Wish they would've added a power button on it.

Go look at an RCA universal remote, it looks EXACTLY like the Xbox remote. There's no question RCA makes the things for Microsoft. I always thought it was a dumb deal for Microsoft to make since RCA's universal remotes are some of the most poorly designed remotes in the business....then RCA started coming out with their V-port TVs with the garish "Xbox-ready" logo on the front and it makes a lot more sense. Leave it to Microsoft to figure out a way to advertise their product on TV even when the damn thing isn't turned on.

RCA universal remotes may suck, but they're hella cheap - that's probably why they struck that deal. :)
