can you play PS2 games on your computer?
 

A friend of mine told me that he can play PSX games on his computer and he said that there is a converter out that allows you to play Ps2 games from you disk drive. Is this true and if so where can I get one? thanks

Doing so is illegal, hence this question shouldn't be asked or answered here.

Actually, according to the the courts, it's not illegal to do - Bleem! fought Sony and ended up winning.

Whatever the case, posts on emulating games are always closed here.

I really don't think he's asking about playing roms or anything like that.

Sounds like he's looking for something that will play ps2 games on your pc just like bleem let you play psx games on your pc.

Maybe namja or Geoff know more about this, but I haven't heard anything about this being legal or illegal. Apparently, Bleem! was legal, and this sounds very similar to what Bleem! was doing. We're not talking about getting illegals ROMs here (and any discussion of that will be deleted)... we're talking about getting legit PS2 discs and playing them through one of your optical media drives... right? I'll let someone else with more knowledge than me on the topic close the thread, if that's what should be done.

Why isn't there a bleem for PS2 or Xbox?

i'm not talking about using copies or downloaded games. I'm asking about a program or something that lets you play the actual PS2 discs on your computer so that I can play games that are not out for pc yet. (metal gear solid 2) And if the games come out on pc I would buy them. I am extremely against pirating music, games, movies, etc..

Bleem! won their case but it ended up killing them so Sony was probably happy anyway.

To clarify, the legal costs associated with going to battle with a company like Sony put Bleem! under.

Bleem! got terrible reviews when it was out. I haven't heard of anything that is similar to it for the PS2.

Anyway, from what I've heard, with the current capabilities of computers, it is impossible to play PS2 games on your PC. Programs are being worked on (I hear) but they are all terribly slow, like 1 frame every 3 seconds or something.

I say give it a couple years...but with PS2 being $200 instead of $300, why not get one? Sure, saving states is nice (and there must be other advantages of using a PC)...

I want to get a PS2 that plays American and import games. I'll keep waiting until someone develops one. I don't see why this would be a problem, as it would just be more money for Sony in the long run if we could.

A general rule of thumb is that you need a processor 10x as fast as the cpu you are trying to emulate. So you'd need atleast a 3ghz processor for the 300mhz chip in the PS2. However factor in the 2 vector units and you're looking at some a lot higher. Remember the Saturn hasn't been emulated yet and that has a similar basic design.

Faithful PS2 emulation is probably at least 3 years off.. You're far more likely to see xbox emulation (which wouldn't be true emulation anyway, just a hacked xbox os running on a pc)
