Gamers.com's 10 Best Gamecube games of 2002

10 Best games of the rest of the year, just like the PS2 list they did a while back. ED is on it for some reason. They say it's "because they like it so much." I say it's because they couldn't come up with 10 games coming out before years end that looked great. I can't fault them there, I'd be hard pressed to come up with 10 games on all 3 systems combined that I'm really looking forward too.

10. Wario World
9. Turok: Evolution
8. Super Monkey Ball 2
7. Animal Crossing
6. Eternal Darkness
5. Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet
4. Phantasy Star Online Version 2
3. Resident Evil 0
2. Metroid Prime
1. Super Mario Sunshine

How many of those games have they played from beginning to end, other than ED? NONE. This list is pretty useless.

Think of it as a most anticipated list. They just poorly titled it.

Its an online RPG for the Dreamcast thats being ported over. Its good if you like online RPGs.

Animal Crossing has old NES games included, but the main game is different. I think you unlock the old NES games as rewards are something, I will need to go find a preview for it.

I never played it myself but from the videos it looks like FF or Grandia. You fight explore, fight monsters, buy stuff, etc. You just do it online with other players in your group as opposed to computer controller characters.

The Japanese version of Animal Crossing (Animal Forest+) contained these emulated NES games:

Clu Clu Land
Balloon Fight
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr. Math
Pinball
Tennis
Golf
Punch Out
Baseball
Clu Clu Land D (Famicom disk version)
Donkey Kong 3
Donkey Kong Jr
Gomoku Narabe
Mahjong
The Legend Of Zelda (Famicom disk version)
Super Mario Bros
Mario Bros
Ice Climber
Wario's Woods

Animal Crossing should contain the majority of these NES games, plus there are rumors NOA might add more to the U.S. release.

Don't forget, if I remember correctly, you will be able to download these NES games to your GBA!

PSO is more action RPG. Gameplay is similar to Secret of Mana type games.

That sounds terrific but I don't see how it would work.

From Nintendo.com

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, Nintendo is showcasing several innovative games that further expand connectivity, starting with the revolutionary Animal Crossing™, a community building adventure. This new game extends game fun from NINTENDO GAMECUBE to Game Boy Advance, opening new worlds, and also links it to trading cards with the introduction of the e-Reader. Players can download full classic NES games to the Game Boy Advance for hand-held fun on the go, and swipe trading cards through the e-Reader, which attaches to the Game Boy Advance to transport messages from the characters, game items and even music.
I couldn't find the original link that described how this is all supposed to work, and this one from Nintendo sounds a little different than I remember, but you get the idea.

From what i read of the previews you connect the GBA to the GC and download the mini game into the memory of the GBA. Supposedly (and i never looked at the manual so i don't know how to do this) there is a way to put the GBA into sleep mode so it shuts off the screen but doesn't turn completely off. This mode lets you maintain the mini-game in memory so you can play it whenever you want (unless batteries die, you turn the GBA off, or you start a cartridge game in it). Then you can upload your high scores into Animal Crossing to maintain a compiled high score list from games you play on the GC and the GBA.

The same process of saving a mini-game into memory on the GBA will also let you download a virtual pet into the GBA and kind of "level" him so he produces better items and stuff for you - then you connect to your game in the GC and when you travel to the island to talk with this creature he will be improved based upon the "levels" you got him in the GBA mini-game.

I'm really really looking forward to Animal Crossing and have been following all the previews and such on the process of bringing it to the states - honestly i'm suprised it is coming at all since it appears to be such a niche market japanese style game. A sign of how stoked for this i am is that i'm putting off Mario Sunchine so i can pick up Animal Crossing the next week and save my little free time for that game instead.

Hmm, if you hold start+select while turning the GBA on, it'll make a familiar noise and the Nintendo logo will disappear. This is what developers do to u/l homebrewed games to their GBA.
