What is "The Sims Deluxe" that comes out in 2 months?

I saw this listed on EBGames website, but had heard nothing about it. I've been tempted to buy The Sims for a while now, but just haven't (the last time a game was as pumped as this on the PC, I didn't care for it at all (Myst)). Anyway, is the Deluxe version going to have all the expansions or something?

Also, is The Sims as slow as I hear some people say? I've been putting it off mainly due to worrying that it'll just be a lot of "oh look, there's a virtual person watching TV. Yay.". Thanks.

The new version will include the original The Sims as well as the first expansion pack, Livin’ Large. There are plenty of new objects exclusive to Deluxe as well as a new batch of walls, floors and skins and will even feature two brand new Roman and Science Fiction decorator themes. The pack is aimed at newcomers rather than the existing fans.

A new tool will also be included called “The Creator” which allows playors to create custom skins by choosing and changing heads, body shapes, clothing and accesories. This will be much more powerful than the existing Sim creator in the game already. The new tool will even allow players to scan-in pictures of their own faces to use for their new Sim. Images can also be scanned-in to add customization to their newly created Sim.
The Sims is a great game and this is a pretty good deal. I haven't played it in a while, but I'm looking forward to starting again when Sims Online comes out.

Just seems, to me, like it's another attempt for them to milk more money out of "The Sims" franchise.

Electronic Arts will release a premium edition of its best-selling virtual-life game in September.

Electronic Arts has unveiled The Sims Deluxe, its upcoming premium edition of The Sims, the popular virtual-life game created by Maxis. The Sims Deluxe will combine the original game and The Sims: Livin' Large, the first in the series of Sims expansion packs that have been released over the past two years. The compilation will also have exclusive features not found in the original game or any previous expansions. It will contain more than 25 new objects from two new design sets, as well as more than 50 new clothing options that will let players customize the appearance of their sims. In addition, the compilation will include the Sims Creator, an editing tool that will let players customize every detail of their sims' clothing, jewelry, tattoos, and faces.
The Sims, which was released in early 2000 and was recently declared the best-selling PC game of all time, lets players create a neighborhood of simulated people and control their lives. The game's success has inspired the release of four expansion packs: The Sims: Livin' Large, The Sims: House Party, The Sims: Hot Date, and The Sims: Vacation. Maxis is currently working on a fifth expansion, The Sims: Unleashed, as well as The Sims Online, a massively multiplayer online game based on The Sims. To learn more about The Sims, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.

The Sims Deluxe is scheduled for release in September. We'll post more information about the compilation as it becomes available.

I hope "The Creator" can be dowloaded by those who already have The Sims. I'd really like to get my hands on that.

Also, is The Sims as slow as I hear some people say? I've been putting it off mainly due to worrying that it'll just be a lot of "oh look, there's a virtual person watching TV. Yay.". Thanks.
It's not really slow. You can fast-forward the action at any time. So for example if you want your sim to watch TV for 2 hours, it'll only take a few seconds. The game certainly isn't fast-paced like an FPS but it is very addictive and there's a lot to keep you interested. I'm tempted to say it's not for everyone but based on the sales figures it seems like everyone owns it.

It doesn't seem that way to me. It's a great deal for the few people out there who don't own The Sims.

i've never played the sims... so, if the price is right, maybe i'll try it out.

FYI tip to anyone looking to play the SIMS. The EB near me has had these things on the shelf where they keep used games more or less constantly for the last two months. They have sales from time to time (25% off right now) and if you pick the right time, you can pick up the Sims for about 25 bucks. Half Price is a good thing. I picked up the Sims for 25, hot date for 12, and livin large for 8 bucks for my fiancee. I picked up a bunch of DVDs (including the collectors version of Legend for 7 dollars) and Never winter nights as well (14.99, but I doubt that can be repeated). It was a good deal. Game Stop probably has similar deals as well if that's what you got near you.

Yeah it could be. I just think if they wanted to do that, why not release a "box set" like Blizzard does with Starcraft and Diablo. By including items and features you can't get in the normal game or expansions it just seems like they want to make those who already have the game get another copy. Then again, if you are going to do that you probably are already a big fan and don't care. It kind of reminds me of when movie studios release multiple versions of the same movie out on DVD.

I doubt many people will rebuy the game for a few extra features. I'm hoping those who already on the game download some of that stuff, especially "The Creator."

I can't believe they haven't at least added the first two expansions into the intial $50 investment. At this point, you would have to spend $170 to play the Sims and all its expansions. I was refusing to buy into it for awhile for that reason (until I snagged the deal related above). I'm glad the rest of the companies put out those boxed sets after awhile.
