Monster Cable's component cables VS. Microsoft's cables (XBOX)
I will soon be purchasing an X-Box. I own a 27'' Samsung HDTV, and was wondering if Monster Cable's component cables are WORTH the extra money. The "Gamelink 400 X" (monster's component cable) retails for 60 BUCKS!!! Will you see a difference between Monster's cables, and the packs that Microsoft sells, because I can buy nearly two games (used of course) with the money I would save buying Microsoft's cables. Any opinions from those who have experience in this field would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

get the cheaper ones and buy the two games :)

Having tried a few Monster Cable products and a few regular cheaper ones, I have decided that Monster Cable is definately more expensive. That is the only difference I have found.

I got the Monster cables but only because a friend gave them to me at cost (half price).

I own Monster cable for my home theater and audio equipment.
The Monster cable for the XBox while nice looking is simply too expensive for the media. I purchased generic cables for about 1/4th of the cost. Too bad for Monster I would have bought their products if they were priced realistically. |
Monster Cable=waste of $$$ for most general gaming/home theater applications. They are well made cables, but they are also major overkill unless your components are 100' apart where signal loss might become an issue (I design cables for seismic equipment so I really do know about signal loss and such).

I have the Monster cables for my Xbox, but I'd probably get the Microsoft HD pack if I could go back and do it again.
Something else to consider about the Monster cables: if you buy the Monster component cables and you want Dolby Digital, you HAVE to buy the Monster optical cable (another $30 +). There's no where on the back of the Xbox to plug the optical cable in, so you have to use the Monster connection, which is proprietary. I did have the Monster SVideo cables for my PS2. When I bought a new TV, I just bought the Sony component pack. Looks great to me. I'm sure the Monster cables are better when it comes to technical measurements and specs. I just doubt that anyone would be able to tell a difference that would justify the price difference. |
I'd have to agree, the price difference between the two is simply too great. I havent' used monster component cables before, but I've picked up their svid cable and optical cable for my dvd player and I really didn't notice any difference between theirs and the radio shack cables I picked up later on. (got bored and swapped out the monsters one day).
