SOCOM Pre-Order for $39.99

Amazon is selling SOCOM for only $39.99. A pretty damn good deal.

Cardiff Giant11 07-11-02 06:32 PM

That is a really good price considering MSRP is 59.99 as it includes the headset.

Souljahh 07-11-02 07:03 PM

Wow that is a damn good deal. I'm a little wary though. Will all copies come with a headset? This just sounds like too good a deal, especially from Amazon.

outcastja 07-11-02 07:06 PM

According to IGN, SOCOM will only be sold with the headset packed with it.

I thought all Sony first party titles were suppose to be $39.99 now. Was this one an exception because of the headset?

That was a rumor floating around pre E3. It's since be debunked. It could happen in the future though.

Debunked? Its in the new issue of PS2 magazine. Why is the official Sony PS2 magazine printing misinformation?

Flay 07-11-02 09:01 PM

Add in on of the $5 off $35 coupons in the DVD Bargains forum and you can get it for $39.48 shipped!

Better order it quick before Amazon catches on. It's already #1 on the sales chart.

Souljahh 07-11-02 09:47 PM

just did it. excellent deal.

got it for my bro's bday.

Lampei 07-11-02 10:01 PM

Just bought it also. I figure if I don't want it or they raise the price, I've got until August 30th to decide :)

Gallant Pig 07-11-02 10:55 PM

I picked it up using Flay's method. I love Online gaming so I'll probably pickup the BB Adapter. Don't think I'll want the HDD though and hopefully that won't be needed for Online games.

s}{ammer 07-11-02 11:07 PM

sweet deal, and thanks for the extra $5 idea flay.

Static Cling 07-11-02 11:29 PM

Keep in mind that the use of the game also requires purchase of a $40 (probably) modem.

I'm hesitant to spend $80 on a game... I know, I can use the modem for other games... but I'm not sure I'd buy many games for the PS2 with online capabilities. Part of me would rather save that $80 and spend a little more to get a video card for my PC. *sigh*... I wanna bite, but I think I'll hold off. Thanks for the temptation, though. :)

1. It has a single player mode. You can read about it here: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/362/362852p1.html

2. Technically, $80 is for the BB/modem adaptor, Socom, and Twisted Metal Online, which comes in coupon form with purchase of the online adaptor.

Shimmer35 07-12-02 12:16 AM

Thanks.... got it for $34.48 shipped using a $5.00 gift cert I had.

Can't wait to get it. I will probably only play the single player missions. I am not really into online gaming (don't really care to much for it or see why its really a big deal). That is unless I can find a good deal here at dvdtalk on the modem :)

Ooh... well, that does change things. Thanks for the info, Flay... I may just pick this up early after all. :)

BigDave 07-12-02 12:25 PM

Pre-ordered it last night. You can't go wrong for that price. I'll probably pickup the adaptor since I'll probably want to play it online. At least they're not charging for you to connect to the servers, yet.

Roan 08-17-02 10:13 AM

It looks like they fixed the price. It's now listed at $59.99.

Brewc 08-17-02 12:43 PM

I ordered mine back on july 15 it's still locked in for $40.

Decker 08-17-02 01:09 PM

Just snuck in yesterday and posted a duplicate thread about this deal
Anyways, our price is still good. Whew, lucky there.

ClarkKentKY 08-17-02 03:18 PM

Your price isn't good for long. Isn't amazon's policy to NOT honor price mistakes. They've got 2 weeks to break the bad news to you. Sorry.

Static Cling 08-17-02 03:58 PM

What is the difference between a price mistake and a price change, though? This price has been up for at least a month. I guess you can't necessarily quantify the difference in that way, but if they bump the price up another $20, I'll be a little upset.

Brewc 08-17-02 05:35 PM

Amazon has charged my card already, because I ordered a boombox in the same order as SOCOM and had it shipped back then, the total on the invoice reflected the $40 charge for the game and that total shows on the online invoice too.

Thrillhouse 08-18-02 08:05 PM

In the new issue of OPSM there is an article that Sony has lowered the price to $39.99 (excluding SOCOM). So thank you outcastja, you saved me $20!

ScandalUMD 08-28-02 07:10 PM

SOCOM confirmed from Amazon: $39.99

It went through for me. Did any of ya'll have similar luck?
