Eternal Darkness and Rumble Feature?

For those that have played Eternal Darkness with the normal (not Wavebird) controller, how important is the rumble feature? I just looked at the manual after picking the game up (man, I can't believe the reviews it's getting) and it mentions that the rumble feature can clue you in to secrets and to think twice before turning it off.

I hate to not use my new Wavebird controller but also don't want to miss anything.

well i was using the wavebird, but then someone said that it helps you find puzzles or something so i tried one of my reg controllers. i didnt get any rumblin except when i checked in the settings that the rumble was on

any idea why that is?

I did notice the rumble at one point that was theoretically trying to clue me into a puzzle of some sort - although i could find absolutely nothing to do there to "solve" a puzzle but i think i'll revisit this area again later.... spoiler tags for those who might not have played it yet although it was pretty early in the game:

Spoiler:
When you are the girl from Cambodia and go through the hallway with the big mural right before the room with the demon with many mouths and eyes. In the hallway near the mural on the right side it rumbled and then in the demon room there are little off-shoots from the main circular path. It rumbled to indicate a puzzle at the entrance to those offshoots as well.

I played with my normal controller for a while, wasn't noticing much rumbling, and switched to the Wave Bird.

Ign Cube addressed this in their Mailbag yesterday. Basically, it's just hints to look closer because there is something you need to pick up. It's not like Zelda: OOT where you wouldn't know to bumb a certain patch of ground if not for the rumble. You'll probably find the stuff anyway, as a B icon pops up when there's something you can examine or pick up. Anyway, here's there comment.

"Fran responds: Okay, I'll answer your rumble question first. They were obviously inspired a bit by what you experience in Zelda on the N64. But, it's not as secretive. That is, you don't have to blow a bomb or cast a spell to suddenly reveal a hole in the wall. Instead, it's just that the rumble tells you, 'Hey! You're standing right next to something you need to pick up. Look closely.'"

Update:

I've beaten it once, and played through the first 5 chapters the second time with the Wavebird, and didn't miss the rumble at all. I only resorted to a faq for hints twice, so the rumble as pertained to solving puzzles can't be very important.

Chapter 8:

Spoiler:
There's an invisible blue effigy sitting in an alcove. I don't know of any way except for the rumble to know it's there.

Ah, so that's why I missed that one. Thanks for the tip, I'll plug my normal controller in for chapter 8 the second time as
Spoiler:
that permenantly enchanted sword that you can through sounds pretty cool. I skimmed through a faq to see what I had missed the first time, and that blue effigy was it, as far as I could tell.

Edit

Just checked a FAQ, and there is a way to find that without the rumble hint.

Spoiler:
"Sapphire Effigy (chapter 8 - Roberto): Progress until you reach the room where Roberto must cast the "Reveal Invisible" spell to claim a key from a pedestal. After casting the spell, leave this room and check a ledge in the corridor. The Sapphire Effigy should now be visible on the ledge (if not, cast another reveal spell)."

So the rumble still isn't 100% necessary for anything.

Ah, I got it on the way in. That makes sense, because the secret kind of seemed out of the norm for the game.

Yeah, I checked the faq, because when I was playing chapter 11, I could have sworn I picked up that item and was wondering why it wasn't in my inventory. I think I picked it up, but died without saving, and then didn't pick it up on the way back thorugh.
