Games that deserve sequels

What games do you think deserve sequels, and why?

I think the old LucasArts game <b>Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</b> is definitely deserving of a sequel. There were so many whacked-out ideas in that game (viscious two-headed squirrels, driving an airplane attendant insane, tossing your goldfish in the disposal) along with the overall theme of stopping an alien takeover of Earth by travelling to various locations (San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Mexico City, Peru, Africa, Stonehenge, Nepal, the Bermuda Triangle, the ruins of Atlantis, Mars, and ultimately Egypt).

There are several fan-sequels of this game in the works (it seems to have a larger following in Germany), but dammit, I want a cartoony sequel in the vein of The Curse of Monkey Island.

GOLDENEYE 2

kvrdave 06-20-02 02:36 PM

Dune III (or at least an expansion pack or something)

kegman 06-20-02 02:42 PM

Golden Axe

I would also love to see another Monkey island sequel. I heard that there may be another Sam and Max sequel coming from Lucasarts, but I will be crossing my fingers. I think that some PC games that really deserve sequels are....

Day of the tentacle... They could bring back some of the laugable characters.. including that guy who was obsessed with his hamster.

system shock 1 and 2... the last one was soo great and soo freakin creepy. It didn't have multiplayer.. but then again, it didn't need it. Let the MANY and SHODAN return!

Kings Quest series... the last one was mediocre but they could repair the damage by returning to the adventure roots of these games.

Full Throttle deserves a sequel because the last one was so great, although quite short.

Finally, a good Star Trek adventure game... Vulcan Rites was cancelled by Interplay (even though most interplay titles featured a trailer for it!).. and this series hasn't had a good adventure game since 1995!

Unfortunately developers consider most non myst clone adventure games to be passe, so we may have to wait for a long long time. :(

I would have loved to have seen a sequel to brigandine or better yet final fantasy tactics.

Grimfarrow 06-20-02 05:27 PM

Full Throttle 2 IS coming next year. No need to wish for it :)

I personally think the Monkey Island series has run its course. The last one was incredibly underwhelming. Same as the King's Quest series. And considering how much I despised Sam & Max Hit the Road, I think it should *never* have a sequel.

On that note, I'd love sequels like:

Gabriel Knight IV
Wizardry IX
Jagged Alliance 3
AutoDuel 2
Master of Magic 2
On the console front:

Far East of Eden III: Namida
Samurai Spirits V

Oh, now that's just blasphemy.

Crystalis
HHGTTG text adventure

Jlbkwrm 06-20-02 09:39 PM

I'm guessing I'm the only one who really wanted a followup to Pepper's Adventures in Time?

Then there was The Adventures of Willy Beamish... A part 2 could be entertaining.

I'd also like to see the 3-D Space Quest that got scrapped, and Leisure Suit Larry 8 (heck, I'd settle for LSL 4).

There are a few I really feel deserve sequels, who knows if they'll ever happen!

ICO - wonderful game!

Gitaroo-Man - cool game most people have probably never played.

Earthbound - Sadly games like this probably wouldn't generate any big market buzz if they were announced, well except for us few devoted fans, which is probably why they havn't said anything about another one after the DD got scrapped :(.

<strike>Metroid</strike> - There is a God!! not one but 2 new metroid games finally!!

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Grim Fandango (though I doubt there'll be a sequel to it).

SiberianLlama 06-20-02 11:39 PM

A new X-Com game that is actually a turn-based squad game as opposed to a crappy flight sim, or an even crappier fps.

Homeworld II
Bushido Blade 3, use the same engine as the first one and update the graphics

A new Privateer game
A new Xwing game, enough of this starfighter crap. I want an Xwing or Tie Fight II

Pepper's Adventure in Time is GREAT. I at first dismissed it as mere children's game, but it was hilarious and the puzzles were well-designed.

Willy Beamish, I never cared for. Nice cel-graphics for its time, but the "choose from these options" made for a really dull game.
LSL 8 would be nice, but not in 3-D.

Oh yeah, here's a look at the new 3-D Full Throttle 2, along with some other upcoming LucasArts games:

Shadowrun (the one for the sega genesis...the snes version sucked)

I had a blast playing this back in the day...Going on runs and jacking into the matrix was extremely fun.

I was gonna mention this, but it did have that crappy under water one.

Wasn't Apocalypse turn based?

kvrdave 06-21-02 10:37 AM

Thanks. I have tried google searches but come up with nothing. It looks like it is at least close to the Big Wheel. To bad it doesn't have the "brake"

I was just asking the guy at EBX about this yesterday. He said that he's heard nothing about a Bushido Blade being done for PS2 and recommended The Way of the Samuai.
I asked if you could deal a single fatal blow and he said, "Well, I did an upward slash and cut the guy in half , all this blood spurted out and he got back up. So, I don't think so."

Bushido Blade 2 is still my favorite fighting game I've ever played and they could do soooo much with it on the new system. Oh to dream.

Terror From the Deep was hardly crappy. Unless you thought the first game was crappy.

Golden Axe: The Revenge Of Death Adder.

I would like to see sequels or remakes of:
Artic Fox
Wasteland (same story but with improved graphics... Maybe use the Fallout engine)
Racing Destruction Set

Kellehair 06-21-02 03:41 PM

The Longest Journey - this game needs a sequel or a prequel or both.

Caoimhin 06-21-02 04:20 PM

I'd like to see a Medievil 3 for PS2. I LOVED the first one and really liked the second. With the PS2, they could do a good bit more.

I tend to agree. I was disappointed when I found you couldn't play Pitt in SSMB: Melee.

Goblincat 06-21-02 08:18 PM

A up to date version of Impossible Mission would rock.
"Another Visitor. Stay a while. Stay forever!"
and
"Destroy him my robots"
