WaveBird: Best. Controller. Ever.
 

Anyone else happen to pick one of these up today? I read all the "rave reviews" and such, saying how I had to pick it up blah blah blah. I figured what the hell, picked one up, brought it home and didn't really mess around with it for a while.

Boy, I'd like those hours back. This thing truly is frickin' amazing. I'll sum it up three different ways.

1) It feels great....just like the normal first-party controller, doesn't feel heavy and works like a charm.

2) Speaking of, I can finally leave my GameCube sitting far away from the big screen, not having to have it close to me on the couch. I sit it way back there in the corner; not to get too geeky, but it feels pretty damn cool to have a wireless controller in your hand and have it feel like you're not confined to anything else. A cool feeling, I must say.

3) Probably the most important...and we've all experienced this....the lack of a cord is huge, when dealing with cats and dogs and anything else with a mouth. I'll never understand the fascination animals have with controller cords, but finally this has been solved. My cat can stop munchin' on my controller for once. I've been waiting a while for that one.

All praise aside, you guys should pick one up. Yeah its $35 and then some, but if you got the funds, definitely pick it up. When I get some more dough, I'm definitely gonna have 3 or 4 WaveBirds goin at it.

I was a little disappointed to find it does not support vibration feedback. Although I admit I picked up one for my son anyway. He loves it!

i picked one up. i agree, this thing ROCKS. doesn't feel any different than the regular controller, and since i always turn the stupid a$$ rumble featrue off anyways, i don't even miss it.

the reason being, the wavebird would suck the life out of the batteries. rather than having 100+ hours of life like the batteries get now, it would get about 10 hours.

Yeah I was skeptical too....but the rumble feature is so muchmore novelty than essential.

Besides....if it becomes essential or really important someday, we'll all still have our regular controller that came with the system to use. But the WaveBird feels just so much better.

any difference in response time from a regular controller? Does it capture every move and button pushed? Always afraid that something may interfer with a signal or may not be fast enough with wireless controllers.

I'm going to pass for now. I already have 3 controllers, and only one of them ever gets used as I rarely ever play multiplayer anymore.

I might get one in the future, but right now I can't justify the cost. It's almost as much as a game, and I'd rather put the $35+ toward a game than a wireless controller as the plain controller and extension cables are good enough for me for now. The tangles get annoying, but not enough for me to shell out the cash. Maybe I'll get one for my birthday or christmas.

I read on IGN here that Electronics Boutique is offering $15 for each regular controller you trade in. They're still not cheap but it knocks the price down to $20 each.

I think they're cheap regardless, compared to the $30 corded DS and the $40 Xbox controller.

Anyway, I got this last night and I really love it. The lack of rumble kinda sucks, but the freedom you have is totally worth it to me. When moving my GameCube around it makes it that much easier when you don't have a corded peripheral to pick up. I like it. Buy it today!

Well, I gave in and bought one yesterday at CompUSA for $30. I tested it and it feels and performs exactly like a normal corded controller (minus the rumble feature of course). It probably won't be my primary controller (I'm a rumble fan), but it'll make a nice alternate...and I now have a full suite of four controllers for party play!

I am so satisfied with mine, I'm thinking of picking a couple others up already. Is there any where else people have seen this for under $30? (without the EB trade-in).

I heard Target had them for $29.99....if anyone else knows of a place with some good WaveBird prices let me know.

I can already tell there will be big fights over who gets the WaveBird controller...might as well pick some more up.

I swear....as much money as DVDTalk saves me, it also makes me spend, spend, spend. I'm going to get the WaveBird today!

I picked one up tonight... and the verdict... I think I'll get one more!

I had to send my GC to a fix-it-place a week ago because of a power problem, and I'm pretty sure it was because of my "Pelican" controllers (I have two of them, or extension chords), so I've only used my one controller that came with the system, until now.

The WaveBird is worth every penny, even if there is no rumble feature... I still love it. I would recommend it to anyone.

I went back, pricematched the one I bought for $36 last week, and bought another one. These things rock!

Well the EB in Lakewood, Ca only gave me $10 trade in on my controller. I still got the Wavebird and I love it. The signal is so strong I can play my gamecube from any room in my apartment. I have two now hooked up with no problems. Wal-mart also sells them for $29.97.

I saw this today when I was at Worst Buy. Looked like a good controller. I almost picked one up but ultimately, I don't have any 2 player (or 3 or 4 player) games for my Cube and I've already got 2 controllers. I figure once I start getting some more multiplayer games I'll pick one of these up.

I cracked and picked one of these up a Wal-mart for $29.86 today.

It works like a charm and not having a cord is convenient, though I'm not sure it's worth the extra $10 over a normal controller. But I'm a sucker for new gadgets, even ones I try to talk myself out of picking up, as I did in this thread. :D
