Favorite Sonic the Hedgehog Game

Okay, I know this is kind of a fruity poll, but deal with it.

What is your favorite Sonic game?!

Listed all the big ones, none of the small ones,.. Leave any thoughts on why the certain one is your favorite!

Sonic Jam, while great, doesn't count as its a compilation of 4 Sonic games.

I voted for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as if I had to choose just one Sonic to play forever, this would have to be the one. It has near perfect Sonic gameplay, tons of speed, and classic levels. I have probably put more hours into this Sonic than any other.

Sonic Adventure 2 ranked very high, as I had a great time with that game, and found it to be amazing, but the Kunckles/Rouge levels (while I didnt find them horrible) were somewhat of a drag in the # that they were presented.

Sonic Advance was actually kind of a bore for me, as I preferred the Sonic Pocket Adventure for NGPC. Sonic Pocket Adventure is based off of Sonic 2, so maybe thats where a little bias comes in, as well as the fact that Sonic Advance didnt really seem to have the Sonic-feel to me.

The rest of the games are all great in their own ways, and sorry for those who consider Sonic 3 & Knuckles the best Sonic game ever and didnt have the option.

Sonic the hedgehog 2. I owned on that one. :)

Sonic 2 and Sonic 1

darkside 06-10-02 07:51 AM

I voted for the Neo Geo version, because quite honestly it is the one I've played the most.

You forgot Sonic Chaos For the Game Gear, That is my true fave but I voted for my 2nd fave Sonic 2 for the Genesis.

YujiNaka 06-10-02 12:01 PM

I have Sonic Chaos and cannot see how that could be someones fave. Its one of the better Sonic's for Game Gear, and I believe the first Exclusive Game Gear Sonic game (not a master system convert like Sonic 1 and 2), but still....

YujiNaka 06-10-02 11:13 PM

Also forgot to throw Sonic 3d Blast in there, but don't suspect anyone picking that as their fave.

A last bump and one last message before this poll goes the way of the Dodo.

Seems the 2's are the winners there. The second 2d Sonic game the winner with the second 3d Sonic game coming in second.

Interesting...

I personally don't understand anyone picking the second Sonic Adventure over the first one. Other than the Sonic levels I found the second game to be terrible.

Aghama 06-11-02 01:23 PM

Sonic Spinball.

YujiNaka 06-12-02 03:51 PM

1 for Sonic R?!

Christo 06-12-02 07:21 PM

I picked the original Sonic because it just blew my mind to see that kind of color and speed. It was like a revolution in gaming, forgive the pun). I was mesmerized by it.

Wasn't Sonic 3 the best game because it used Blast Processing

I'm probably the only one that remembers that phony gimmick.

YujiNaka 06-13-02 12:07 PM

Oh I remember blast processing. Me and my friends still joke about it, though I think they said it was included in Sonic 2?

Sonic 2 was definately the fastest of the bunch, so thats why I think so.

Ditto. I beat it several times as a kid, but never really got a lot of satisfaction out of doing so. Maybe that can be applied to all Sonic games for me, actually. You feel like you're doing something wrong if you want to explore instead of cruising along at 900mph. Not a threadcrap, just an observation. :)

Yeah it was the marketing gimmick for 2. Got it mixed up. The linking of Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 was the marketing for 3.

YujiNaka 06-14-02 08:20 PM

Looks like Sonic 1 came out and took the 2nd place lead from Sonic Adventure 2.

And now Sonic 3 has 4 votes to tie it with Sonic Adventure 2.

For the big time sonic fans at www.sonichq.org and www.sonicfoundation.org, they all seem to think Sonic 3&Knuckles is the best Sonic game, so I am suprised to see less votes for Sonic 3 or S&K.

YujiNaka 06-16-02 12:50 AM

It seems Sonic is more fondly remembered in its 2d versions.

I think thats a bit of nostolgia too.

Sonic Adventure 1 Nostogliac thought--->
Got it with my Dreamcast for Christmas of 99, great game, great feeling to have Sonic back and in a big way. His first real big release that was noticed by the gaming public since basically Sonic & Knuckles! All the others weren't really big deals.

Sonic Adventure 2 Nostalgic though --->
Was anticipating this one heavily, especially after playing the demo with PSO. Loved the Sonic 10th Anniversary pack idea, so called everywhere the day it came out to find a place that had it. Got one at a Gamestop where they didnt reserve them for people who pre-ordered (the employee didnt even know what it was actually!).. Ended up getting 2 more from other stores before all was said and done. What a great package it was, the music CD i listened to quite often (i'm gay so sue me) and the history packlet was a fun tromp thru Sonic's 10 years. All in all, a better memory than Sonic Adventure 1 for some reason.

Haven't played Sonic Adventure 2: battle, but I assume its more of the same...

I now longggg for SA3 on Xbox, if its on NGC, then I'm forced to buy a 2nd system which I dont want.
