zero and the X-Box

After this years E3 I walked out of there saying..."damn now I want an X-Box." I already have a GameCube and a PS2, Im happy with them both, but after playing a few games in Microsoft's booth I feel like I'm missing out a little. To name a few I played Crazy Taxi 3, Unreal Championship, Superman, Steel Batallion, and well I only got to watch the Robotech game. I wont lie I didnt like the X-Box and did my fair share of crap talking, but now I have to eat some crow and say, yes. I want an X-Box. but first I need to get a job so I can buy an XBox :p. Sure it'll be tough to keep up on three systems but heck I think it can be done.

Welcome to the hardcore gaming club!
Spoiler:
That's what I'll say once you get one :D

Seriously though the Xbox has some great games out and coming out. I think some people have blinders on that can't see that.

That said, I'm enjoying my PS2 retro style. Never played Metal Gear Solid (I used to watch my roommates play it though) and I'm enjoy it a bit, tough game at first!

I got a buttload of a PSX/PS2 games from that EB deal and am enjoying them quite a bit.

Hope you find that job soon, sorry the last one fell through. Maybe if that girl who has the job gets in an accident that would help you out? ;) :D

Anyway, enough rambling, 3 consoles is the only way to go! :)

Don't forget House of the Dead, they changed it back to the zombies you and Jack prefer. :)

Jackskeleton 06-05-02 02:11 AM

So.. just admit it.. you just want it because of DOA volley ball...

zero 06-05-02 02:17 AM

oh and one OTHER reason Im picking it up is Dead or Alive:Extreme Volleyball :D

It is a nice feeling when no matter what new game comes out you can run to the store and get it. I will be playing Morrowind this weekend. While most of my friends will probably be coming over since none of them have an Xbox to get it for.

Morrowind has several people I know tempted to do the $100 trade in deal at EB just to get an Xbox to play it on.

I'm also looking forward to Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead and the Star Wars games. And yes, I will probably at least rent the DOA Volleyball game. :D

I've never denied the power and potential of the XBox, I just don't really like Microsoft. But...

After the price drop, E3 and the general 'Walton Mountain at Christmastime' vibe around here lately, I'm thinking that limiting myself to 1 console is kind of goofy. I may get an XBox today. Who knows, later in the year, if the games look good, I may get a Gamecube. All I really want now is Halo, but there were some games announced at E3 that look interesting.

Other than the lack of time to play everything, I like the fact that I'll be able to take advantage of upcoming PS2 and XBox releases.

Why do we feel so loyal to the console that we buy (to the point of insisting that the consoles you didn't buy obviously suck and are a waste of money)? Unless you're a stockholder, who cares if the console you didn't buy sells well?

Exactly. I've pretty much owned every system thats been on the market, and in the end, I'm not limited to just 1 console and their games. I haven't really seen much for the GameCube that I wanted other than Rogue Squadron, but I'm hoping a 2nd or 3rd game will come out that I want :)

I think it's a psychological thing we do to make ourselves feel better.

As for "who cares if the console you didn't buy sells well?", keep in mind that developers make decisions about what games to make and what systems to make games for based on the installed user base and target demographics for each system. Naturally we want the consoles we have to do well, because otherwise we won't have as many great games to play on it in the future.

That's true. I don't think an owner of any of the 3 should be too concerned about not getting good games though. There will always be something on the other side of the fence that looks appealling, but I don't think anyone will get left out in the cold if they only have 1 of the 3 consoles.

I wonder what factors are involved in a development company's decision to put out games for specific consoles? Obviously there are the ties back to the hardware company (Bungie and Microsoft, Nintendo and um, Nintendo, etc). There's also the payoff factor: Make this exclusive to our console for X months and we'll pay you Y dollars. For the most part, I would think a company would want to develop for all three consoles, assuming that the costs don't get in the way of potential profits. The 2 reasons previously mentioned and a general lack of time and resources are probably all that gets in the way.

It's called console envy-

A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking, xbox schmo-box, I own a PS2 and it's great, the xbox only has HALO and it's gonna die soon. Then boom the price drop happens and that awesome deal at KB. I picked up the xbox and spiderman. The system is awesome!!!! The game plays better than the ps2 version, and not only that, but the games they have right now are pretty strong too. Halo on 5.1, MOTO GP's control, JetSetRadio's GrafX, Xbox live, and a whole slew of games that are suppose to come out.

I don't mean to start a console war, but just want to drop my .02 and that the air is a little sweeter on the planetxbox. Well, it's always sweeter on whatever planet you're from. So game on.

The thing that perplexes me the most are the games that own 2 or 3 of the systems and still display loyalty to one system in particular. I've seen it in posts here, and other places. I just don't get it.

I just enjoy games, I could care less what system they're on, or who makes the system. I don't think, "I'm going to go play Gamecube" or "I'm going to go play PS2." I think "I'm going to go play Resident Evil" or "I'm going to go play FFX."

I don't own an X-box, but I don't go around saying it sucks. It's very good hardware, and has several good games. It just didn't have enough interesting games out or annouced to beat out the PS2 in becoming my 2nd console after the drops, and I don't play games enough to justify investing the money in a 3rd system.

That's certainly not going to make me say the system sucks. I'll just grin and bear the fact that I miss a few games here and there like Halo, World Series Baseball, Panzer Dragoon etc.

While I am impressed with my new XBox, I don't feel exactly the same way. In no way do I feel that I've replaced my PS2. I feel like I get the best of both worlds. It's like a whole new world of gaming has just opened up. Yes, the XBox has better specs and is capable of producing prettier games with DD surround sound. That doesn't mean my 15 PS2 games are suddenly crap though. There are a lot of AWESOME games for the PS2. I'm looking forward to upcoming XBox titles (as well as PS2 future releases), but I'm sooooo glad I didn't miss out on Grand Turismo III, MGS2, ICO, Final Fantasy X, NCAA 2002, etc.

Life's too short and the games are too good to be loyal to one console. :)

Word. I dont really see it as console envy, the way I see it I just didnt see anything on the system that made me go "Ok I'll buy one". If I remained strictly loyal to only Nintendo I may have missed out on the great stuff on the PSX, and if I stuck to only Sony I may havemissed out on what Sega had to offer. Its a sad state of affairs, but all in all Im glad I've seen the error of my ways. :D
