Anyone else playing MOH: Frontline?

I just picked it up today at EB.

The graphics aren't nearly as nice as Allied Assault, but it's still pretty good for the PS2. The framerate staggers occasionally. The surround sound effects are good and the musical score is outstanding.

The first level is storming Normandy Beach. It's quite different from the Omaha Beach level in Allied Assault. Different objectives and such.

I just finished a pretty intense level that took me an hour to get through. It's right after the U-Boat level. I wish the development team had introduced quick save points into the levels. Starting over is a pain if you are about 45 minutes into a level.

The controls are of your choosing. You can select from several different configs or you can completely customize your own. You can also invert the Y-axis and turn on the floating crosshairs.

It's been fun so far. It's definitely not as good as Allied Assault, but it's still a quality MOH game.

Wow I didn't think this came out until June 6th. I may have to see if my local Blockbuster has it. I definitely wanna try this game but I'm not sure if It's a buyer yet.

After reading the reviews in GamePro and EGM, I am excited about playing this game. I have never played a MOH game before so it will be a new experience for me.

Once you are done with this game, you can go back and buy the other 2 MOH PS1 titles.

I think I will be getting this very soon too :)

What are some of the control schemes? I have the OPM demo disc that has this on it and you can't change the controls. The default is move forward/backward and strafe with the left stick, and look/aim with the right stick. Shoot is R1.

I don't like that scheme at all, as I don't like using both sticks. In the original MoH on the PSone I used the left sick to move around, and you just had to stand still and hold R1 to zoom in and aim with the left stick. When there were more nazis up close you could just run around, hold a button to strafe, and let the auto aim do the work. ;) Also it seem like the aiming cross hair moves really slow, could just be a demo problem though.

It worked fine as you could generally sneak arond and pick of the nazi's before they too close to you. I guess this game could be more hectic and require being able to run and aim at the same time, but in that case I won't bother with it as I like the more laid back, objective based FPSs like Goldeneye.

Josh, they have 4 preset control schemes, plus the Custom one that gives you a blank controller to set yourself.

1. "MOH Sharpshooter" is probably the preset one in the Demo. It uses 2 sticks to move.

2. "MOH Classic" is the one you would like. It uses the exact same control scheme of the previous PSX Moh games.

3. "Easy Fire" is for the trigger happy folks. It changes the fire button to R3. Uses 2 sticks to move

4. "Easy Aim" is for the ammo conservatives. It's changes the aim button to L3. Uses 2 sticks to move.

I think the aiming cursor moves slow in the finished version too. It takes a while to get used too.

You can turn on a floating crosshair that helps you aim while running.

Thanks Flay. Good to know that the classic scheme is still there. I'm debating on whether to pick this up, or wait for the Gamecube port this fall.

I really don't have time to play it right now as I'm playing Resident Evil, FFX, Maximo, and Gran Turismo 3 and have Eternal Darkness (6/24) prebought.

The GCN version should look better, and might have some extra stuff since there's a good bit of time between now and it's release, but I haven't been able to find anything solid about it.

I'll probably end up with the PS2 version if I can find a deal on it, if not I'll probably hold out for the GCN port.

Wow, that's the first time I have ever been emotionally saddened by a video game.

For those who have the game, I'm talking about the first level in Mission 3. It's the start of Market Garden. You've just been dropped outside a Dutch village. The musical score is a faint chorus that is extremely depressive and haunting, which makes it very emotionally moving.

It really hits you when you see the German soldiers mistreating the villagers. Especially when you see one of the sad, elderly women, shaking and cowering in fear.

I thought the music was excellent in Allied Assualt, but Frontline has it beat, hands down. I'm loving this game so far!

I definitely agree. A quick save would make this game much more fun to play. I hope the XBOX version that is reportedly coming out in the fall has a quick save. Max Payne for PS2 doesn't have a quick save while the XBOX version does. So at least there's hope.

I am playing this right now. Picked it up day before yesterdday, and I just finished the Uboat stage. It's really good....my only complaint is the amount of frame loss during really busy sections of the game with animated objects. After playing MGS2 I thought that MOH would have been super easy for the PS2 to handle. Still a great game. I am having alot of fun with it. The music is great!!

I want it but never going to blow $50 on any game...Ill snag it for $30 used soon I hope.

Drexl 06-02-02 08:08 AM

I'll get the XBox version when it comes out for five reasons:

1. Less slowdown, probably
2. Dolby Digital 5.1 sound
3. There may be some extras like with other ports
4. Anti-aliasing
5. I don't have a PS2 :)

Shimmer35 06-02-02 07:40 PM

Can't wait to get it. I hate waiting for games in the mail. That is the price you pay though when you get a good deal ( $24 shipped using gift certs)

gr8vette 06-03-02 06:04 AM

Is there an Xbox version coming out? If so, count me in!

Medal of Honor: Frontline Moves to Xbox and GameCube

By: Nich Maragos May 30, 2002 4:01 PM PDT
Medal of Honor: Frontline was announced today for the two console systems who've been left out of the MoH experience thus far: Xbox and GameCube. The port to the two other systems will be an enhanced one, with the Xbox confirmed to feature four-player offline multiplayer mode and the GameCube version likely to follow suit.

The Xbox port will be out this November, while no release date for the GameCube title was announced. The PS2 version should be in stores today.

Rented it at blockbuster. A few complaints. The weapon models look way to clean and bright. They look almost cartoony to me. The graphics themselves are nice but the textures are pretty drab and the whole game is dark and kind of foggy. I had to crank the brightness on my TV just to see where I was going. Second, the controls need work. The sensitivity of the analog sticks for aiming is pretty bad. I was able to play Halo on the XBox, Half-Life and Red Faction on the PS2 with a similar controls setup and I had few aiming problems. Overall a good game but I'm glad I rented it.

Offlinemode. Huh. I guess we'll be hearing that term a lot from now on. :)

mabus 06-03-02 04:47 PM

This game rocks.

What makes me kinda mad though is that they didn't include a 2 player deathmatch like the old games had.

If it had been 2 player, it would be absolutely perfect.

Lethal Nemesis 06-03-02 05:42 PM

Is there any deathmatching at all?

mabus 06-04-02 12:05 AM

nope! it's only a single player game

Deke Rivers 06-04-02 11:18 AM

great game-im on the U_Boat level right now..the Omaha Beach sequence was nice especially n Dolby although It did bother me a bit that they took a scene like the Omaha landing and turned it into an arcade sequence of a game..I think that whole incident is sacred ground

bulletproof 06-05-02 06:52 AM

Does it support a USB mouse/keyboard setup? I tried the OPM demo and I guess I'm just too used to a PC set up, because I found the controls unnecessarily awkward. I loved MOH:AA and would really like to play all the MOH games eventually.

No, there's no kb/m support. The controls are a little difficult at first but you'll get used to them. Once you start playing you figure out which buttons should go where and you can set it up how ever you like, it makes it a lot easier.

Gallant Pig 06-05-02 03:16 PM

I think I'll wait for the Xbox version of this game, hopefully they'll fix some of the problems I've heard about.

chanster 06-05-02 03:52 PM

There is nothing wrong with turning an event like D-Day into a game if it is treated with respect. Same goes with movies and the rest, IMHO.

I played MOH: AA and got Frontline yesterday. The controls take a little getting used too, but I am starting to figure it out.
