I seriously doubt there will be another price drop until next year, and even if it does happen, I think the GC will go down to $125 or $129, not $99.
That's just my non-professional opinion though.
While we're wishfully thinking, if it did happen, I would probably pick up a PS2 to complete the trifecta so I could play some GTA3 and Kingdom Hearts.

It's be great if this was true, but I see it to be highly unlikely. Especially since 2 of the 3 console makers weren't even planning a price cut at this time in the year.

Even if you did say that "one of the consoles was going to drop in price" ... great. It was probably the PS2. That was expected to drop in price, and 9 billion people on the internet were screaming about it for months. It had sold millions of units, established its marketplace and audience, and could afford a drop.
.... What you're saying now is that the Gamecube, within 1 year of its release, will only cost HALF of its launch price. That will NEVER happen. Hell they still charge 69.99 for the N64 and it's 8 years old.
Now, i will give you this (if you throw enough rocks you have to wing something) ... The Xbox, if it continues to sell slowly, might go to 149. The PS2 won't because it is outselling the other two consoles right now, and probably will after the pricecuts also. So there would be no advantage to a drop. But the Xbox people might see it as a holiday strategy.

For the record, Nintendo is still making money at $149
I know this because ATI knows this and ATI works with the company I work for.
And the PS2 is keeping LSI logic very busy still....
Haven't heard much from nVidia though

I can picture another price drop by next March or May but probably not by Christmas.
Did GameCube drop the price to $149 already? I was at Circuit City today and I didn't even notice.

By the way, you are wrong wrong wrong. If there is a pricedrop at Xmas time for the 3 consoles I will personally buy you the console of your choice.

from what I hear, they are pretty much breaking even. Even if they are making a profit, it's probably very, very small.

i know it sounds crazy, but analysts have said that a second price break is possible. most specifically the bundling of special consoles where an entire package was discounted (i.e. ps2, 2 controllers, memory card + 1/2 game(s) for a discounted price).
but then again these are just equity analysts so their word can mean the dirt you walk on. but really, logic would tell you that it would only take a price cut by ps2, or xbox that would force the other 2 parties to react ... but i agree the gamecube probably wouldn't fall below 125 if a cut were to happen at all

Groucho, good find on that thread. It was funny reading from December not only people saying that the PS2 would drop in Jan. but also the crap about the HDD and dvd support. Interesting reading the sales back then and to compare them now when there are actually xboxs on the shelves it looks like not much has changed. I want to see some numbers for the first 2 weeks after the price drop. I bet all three systems were selling like hot cakes and I would like to see how many new systems sold.
