First officially released Doom III screenshots.

That last one is sweet.
|
Looks good.
|
Oh. My. God. They look almost pre-rendered. No, they look better than a lot of pre-rendered movies I've seen. Stupendous. ID Software does it again.
|
What kind of system am I going to have to have to get that quality?
|
Blah... if I want to play, it means I'll have to buy a new video card. Like ipkevin said, they do look rendered, like the FMV's on the old playstation rpg's.
|
The only video available so far is a 100 meg PR thing that runs at 5 fps. It's got some good stuff, but isn't worth downloading over dialup. There's an 11 minute in booth demo that hopefully will be made public at some point.
|
I don't buy it. Looks like pre-rendered FMV to me. I'll have to see some actual gameplay footage before I believe it looks like that in motion.
Of course, I'd love to be wrong. :) |
Well, if you look at the 3rd pic, it doesn't quite look as smooth as pre-rendered work. The silhouette of the head is quite angular actually and the chest texture is a bit pixellated compared to the rest of the textures. Looks like it's realtime and just really really nice artistry here.

I'll bet the makers of "Resident Evil" are flattered. :) I hope the XBox version looks this good.

Are they going to keep the old monsters? I love fighting against the imps, cyberdemons, grunts, Cacodemons, Barons of Hell, etc . . . .
There's nothing quite like splattering an imp with a rocket launcher at point blank range. |

Very, very nice.
I used the first pic as my wallpaper. Man, if the game really does look as good as the pics, I'll definitely upgrade just to play it. |
Saw the 5 minute or so demo of this at E3. They let in groups of 15 at a time into this room where they had this huge plasma screen and ran this demo that was all being rendered in real time using the latest ATI graphics card that isn't out yet and wasn't even featured at E3 by ATI (little semi-insider secret)... anyway - the game looks really sweet. I'm sure the video will end up on the web soon enough, but those pictures don't do the game justice at all. The game will be really intense and fast paced and scary as all hell. I jumped watching the demo. The lighting effects were great. I had a few issues with cutscenes that they decided to intersperse throughout the game during gameplay which make this more of an interactive movie than a traditional Doom game, but I'm sure it'll be just as enjoyable and most people will dig that. For me though, it takes me out of the moment since I'm watching myself do something rather than seeing the first-person-view the whole time. Most people had been saying that Doom 3 was the best looking game at E3.
I thought Deus Ex 2 was a bit more impressive though... they were only about 30-50% done with it and it will probably be their baby at E3 2003, but what they have looks fantastic. What they are planning to do is even more fantastic. The lighting effects for Deus Ex 2 are just as impressive as they are for Doom 3 and there will be a purpose for it. Their goal is total immersion and I think they are totally on the right track. |

sweet game.....
|
are there any mirrors out there for us meager 56kers?? I wanna see:)
|
Do you think that's the best the game is supposed to look? Here's what John Carmack had to say:
We actually screwed up at E3 -- we should have been running it at high quality settings (uncompressed textures, anisotropic filtering), but we were chasing some problems the first day, and it got set back to medium quality. The problems had gone away, so we left it that way, rather than risk changing it back. |

The game looks sweet. Only downside is we know nothing about the gameplay. That's what I care about first.
|
the video looks amazing, there is also another video file out there called Doom Legacy that shows more game concept art and clear in game footage. this game looks sick. And yes, you will most likely have to buy a new video card for it. But considering the quake III engine has been used after its release on many more games, I'm sure the DOOM III engine will be used after the games out on other games.. and that I can not wait for. :)

I wonder if DOOM 3 will be like Doom 2's gameplay. Straight up Killing Monsters YEAH!!!
