Where to buy an import PS2 console (and games)
I just read about the price drop for the American PS2 and read on this forum that the Japanese console will follow suit. Since I have no desire to play games dubbed into English, and all I really want to play are RPGs, I think it would be better for me to get an import PS2 (unless it's easy to modify a cheaper, american one). What stores do people here recommend for import consoles? Hopefully that price drop will come soon, I could really use a DVD player at work.
Thanks for any info.

it is not cheap to mod a US PS2 with a chip that is worth a damn. There are cheaper/easier mods but they are limited on what you can play... none of them play orginal imports. The good chips are hard to find because sony sued the companies that made them. So if you can find one, it will cost you quite a bit (cheapest I have seen them is for 125 just for the chip) installing them are a pain since most of the good ones are around 40 wires to solder. And finding someone to do it is kinda hard, and they will usually charge at least 100 bucks. And off the top of my head 29800 yen (current price of the PS2 in japan) is around 230 bucks. So your best bet would be to import a japanese PS2 and games, which is exactly what I am going to do once I get settled (I just moved from Texas to NC a couple days ago)

just dropped by to postthe same thing...
I'm looking for exactly the same thing...where's the best place to get a Japanese PS2? I'm looking for one for the dance and rhythm games mainly. BuyRite has them for $349, but with the price drops now, someone must be able to do better!
