Sales of the console have surged because of Halo (wow I didn't think that would be big there). Console sales have jumped 70 percent since Halo has come out.

Does this mean that they sold 5 consoles this week instead of the 3 they sold last week?

Sorry, I could not help it . . . Call me a Gamecube fanboy if you wish. I deserve it...

Are there any specific numbers out there? Specifically, I'd like to see how they did compared to Sony and Nintendo.

Is Halo outselling Biohazard?

The X-Box was selling about 1800 consoles per week in Japan (data from 4/8 - 4/14) before the release of Halo. As such, a 70% jump means that it now sells about 3060 consoles per week.

In comparison, the PS2 was selling 55,000 units per week during the same time frame, and the Gamecube moved 10,000 units.

A 70% jump in sales is pretty dismal, unfortunately. The X-Box needs an increase of several thousand percents in order to even consider catching up in Japan.

I doubt anyone thought they'd catch up. They just have to be able to make a formidable market position (ie be close to GameCube) in Japan.

Do you own a console because it's popular and sells a bunch or do you own it for the games? I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of blasting through Halo.

In other words, X-Box sales went from "SQUAT" to "Squat and a half"!

I'm not a big gamer but I had some money sitting around and I wanted the newest, biggest thing out there so I bought the XBox last fall. Now I have 3 XBox games which are all out on PS2 and I want to buy a new game in the worst way but there is nothing out there that interests me. Also at the time I bought it, GTA3 was only a couple months away I think it was listed as a March release back then. All the games I want are PS2 only right now. And I KNOW I would hate Halo.

Oh well, it's not a big deal. I just wish I had bought a PS2 instead.

I'm glad the system sales went up the xbox is going to be on slow burn in japan for awhile. But when some of the bigger xbox games come out it should catch on well over there. There is going to be game's for xbox that just can't be done on any other system things like project ego, knights of the old republic, unreal championship just to name a few there are many great looking xbox only titles coming out. Now I'm by no means a fanboy I have p2s and the box I havent purchased a gamecube yet as I have not played any games that I liked for it(rouge leader was fun but got old quick) so for everyone thats maybe any bit doubtful about thier xbox purchase don't fear every system launch has allways been followed by a drout of good games. Just look at the ps2 launch there was hardly any good games for about a year after it's release, but look at it now good games are coming out on a more regular basis. I personally can't wait till x-mas time there will be so many games out for each system you won't be able to choose which games to buy! So heres to all 3 major systems let the games begin!

sell the xbox and games. then buy the PS2 after the hoped for price drop from E3. If you get 249 for the XBox or maybe a bit more and then some money for the games you might just make it an even exchange and the money to buy a game or two.

With the greatest hits games at around 20 bucks you can get a few great games for some decent money.

maybe someone with a PS2 will trade it even up for your XBox.

I'm not big on FPSers either, they are just OK to me, and tend to make my head spin, but Halo is different and wonderful. Give it a chance, you are missing out on the best title of the system so far.

Not really. I've played it and didn't care for it either. But then, I've never played an FPS that I actually liked. Well, Heretic II, but that isn't exactly FPS.....

I can't blame you because playing it for 10 minutes at EB can really show you how good a game is. I played FFX at EB for 10 minutes and didn't care for it at all.

Wow you are really stubborn. Sell it then, someone else should be putting that machine to good use.
