Nintendo Cuts Planned GameCube Price for Europe.

Here is the story:

I'm not suprised. This seems to fall in line with the same structure of the U.S. prices.

In Europe; PS2 and XBox:

299.00 EUR = 265.54 USD
199.00 GBP = 287.94 USD

Gamecube:

199.00 EUR = 176.73 USD
129.00 GBP = 186.65 USD

That's great. I'm glad they're going all out to compete in all territories. I imagine they'll cut the U.S. price as well, if the PS2 drops in price. My guess is if the PS2 goes to $249, the GCN will go to $179 and if the PS2 drops to $199 the GCN will fall to $149. Nintendo has been working on cutting production costs for a while to facilitate price drops. It also makes great sense with all the A+ games scheduled to come out this year. They just might reach their worldwide sale projection of 12 million that they announced in a recent release stating that they have shipped four million GCNs worldwide.

I would prefer the latter and hopefully at E3. It would save me $50.

Me too as I might consider picking up a PS2 at $199.

I am beginning to think that the PS2 might just hold firm on its price. Not sure why I am getting that feeling. maybe because it is outselling all the other consoles combined.

if they do drop the price i think it will be the smaller 249 or maybe a bit higher. i am hoping my feelings are wrong. however we are getting close to E3 and I keep hearing how well the PS2 is selling.

so why drop the price?

i hope i am wrong. since i really want to buy a GC this year and cheaper would be real nice

It would allow Sony to increase their lead over MS and Nintendo. Plus their is an outside chance of MS or Nintendo making a price drop first, and Sony counteracting that, but that's a pretty big long shot, at least in the U.S.
