Hmm... article dated April 1st. In any case, I still have my ToeJam and Earl mobile I won at Epcot Center beating everyone in Virtua Racing.

No...this is for real. There was a big write-up about it in the newest issue of OXM.

I just wish they would get a franchise that I actually cared about.

TJ&E was one of the funnest and funniest games I ever played. I've been looking forward to this since it was announced for the Dreamcast last year.

I agree. It seems like all of Sega's big title games are XBox exclusive(with the exception of Virtua Fighter 4). It seems like the GC and PS2 are getting left in the dark. I realize it's because MS is paying them a ton of money for the exclusive rights but it still sucks. I'm suprised MS doesn't try and buy Sega

Actually I think Sega's doing a pretty good job of splitting up their games. All systems are getting pretty much equal support, they are just getting different types of games. Of course if you don't own the system that is getting the type of games you want, or you want all the Sega games, they your going to be pissed. :D

Currently it seems like the GCN is getting all the off beat and more kid friendly games, i.e. Monkey Ball, Soccer Slam, Sonic etc.

Sony is getting the more traditional "hit" games like VF4

X-box is getting the "niche" games like Jet Set Future, Shenmue, Toe Jam & Earl, etc.

Really the only game that doesn't fit is the Panzer Dragoon Series going to the X-box, I'd have expected that to go to the PS2.

I can't think of any other game except VF4 that sega makes that is PS2 exclusive. Can someone tell me why Sega isn't making all their sports games cross platform? I hear WSB 2k3 is going to be XBox exclusive. I'm really starting to wonder just how much money Sega got and is getting from Microsoft. My guess is alot more than from Sony and Nintendo. Oh well, atleast the PS2 still has FF ;)

from what I read, VF4 is going to come to the gamecube and Xbox so it won't be a PS2 exclusive for long.

My point exactly. I think the PS2(and to a lesser extent the cube) are not getting anywhere near the attention from Sega that the XBox is. Like I said, MS has deep pockets so perhaps they're just paying them alot more. It still stinks though, when I first heard Sega was going multiplatform I thought none of this "exclusive" garbage would occur. Guess I was wrong.

Toejam rocks!!!

Lonestar9 04-04-02 10:27 PM

Well, I have an Xbox, so I can take all the exclusives.....:)
It would be nice if there were more ports, but then a gamer starts to complain about the port......it does seem like Xbox gets more games than the others, but well, like someone said, MS is probably paying them more, you gotta go where the money is....

Gallant Pig 04-04-02 11:17 PM

Ports are suck in my book. Let a developer go buck wild with the system they choose, none of this lowest common denominator multiplatform crap.

Equal support?

I don't think Sega is giving all systems equal support

Xbox has Gun Valkyrie(sp?), Shenmue series, JSRF, Sega GT, there will be alot of re-makes of old sega games as well, not to menion the games I'm probably forgetting

Nintendo: lots of DC ports, Crazy Taxi, Super monkey ball (originally a DC game, I think, correct me ifim wrong), Soccer Slam, Pro trucker, SA2:B, NBA2k2

While Nintendo is getting some pretty cool games from Sega, and I'm glad to have them, they aren't getting the newer (and better) franchises, like Shenmue and JSRF

Monkeyball and Soccer slam are cool, but don't come anywhere near Shenmue
I just hope Sonic stays on the cube

That's fine for people that can afford to own all the systems and for those that have enough free time (and nothing better to do ;)) to keep up with games on 3 systems.

However, I do agree that the "lowest common denominator" stuff sucks. They should make the games look the best they can on every system, and not rush the ports. A good example is THPS3 on the X-box. It looks much better than the PS2 version. The GCN version was rushed to make the launch, and pretty much looks just like the PS2 version.

Ports are fine. Developers just need to take the time to do them right on each system, rather than just making a PS2 game and doing a straight port.

Tony Hakw 3 could have been a helluva lot better had it been designed for the Xbox. I just play Amped and think about its potential.

That's true, but the reality is that very few big games (third party that is) will be designed for the X-box or Gamecube. Neither of them has near the installed base of the PS2, and neither of them have a chance at catching up this generation either. It's also likely that the X-box could fall into a distant third by the end of the year, assuming that Nintendo gets most of it's big games out, and that Microsoft doesn't have anything huge up it's sleave. At any rate, regardless of what happens, most big third party hit games are going to be designed with the PS2 in mind.
