Heroes of Might and Magic IV

Anybody playing this? Somebody must be, based on how hard they are to find (went several places before buying the last copy at the local EB). I just picked up a copy at lunch, and I can't wait to get home and install this baby.

Glad that there are still a few companies making turn-based strategy games on the the PC.

I was looking forward to it, when the release date was November 2001... then it got pushed back... and I bought an Xbox and a bunch of games... 'nuff said.

I'll probably pick it up when the price drops.

How about a review??

I started playing yesterday. Its been a couple of years since I last played. I think the last version I had was HMM2. I remember playing on Christmas Eve. I was so into the game that a couple of buddies came by and I still was at the computer playing while they were watching Ghost in the Shell on PPV.

The graphics are nice, the gameplay is good, and the AI plays fair (unlike some games aka; Empire Earth).

If you liked HMM before then I'm sure your going to like this one. Enjoy.

What? This is already out? Loved HOMM 2&3, but like someone else said, I'm busy with my Xbox. I'll wait till the price drops.

come to think of it, I don't think I've played anything on my PC since I got my new TV ;p

Update and first impressions:

Played this a little last night. Fans of the previous games in the series will not be disappointed. Despite the new isometric view, it feels and plays the same...I had little difficulty jumping right in.

There are several minor changes, and some major ones as well that will open up new avenues of strategy. Now, your armies can consist of anybody or anything you'd like. You don't have to have a hero in every group. Want to send one peasant around to gather piles of resources? More power to you. Want to put six heroes in together? You can.

Another big change is that your heroes now fight in battle...which is a great plus. Of course, this comes at a cost, since this means your hero can now die as well.

I haven't gotten much into town management, but I did notice that you can't just build whatever you want. There are some mutually exclusive structures, which means you sometimes have to make tough choices in what you build, and where.

Overall, it looks to be a bigger, meaner version of the previous games. There's enough similarities to keep fans of the older games happy, but enough new additions to justify buying a new game.

I have the game but have not gotten to it yet because of all the other PC games that came out last week that I've been playing. Will play it soon hopefully.

What I would like to know is how is the multiplayer, has anyone tried?

We played 3 multiplayer a few times in the past and it froze quite a bit often so wasnt really as stable as it could get, but it was still fun.

The multiplayer isn't working yet (except hotseat). When you try to play it, it tells you that it's coming soon in a patch.
