Broken X-Box? Story and advise.
Here is a little story some guy wrote after having trouble with his X-Box. At the end, he lets you know if your X-Box is at risk to have the same problems his does. Very informative for you X-Box owners.

Mine was made in Hungary but there isn't a another sticker on top of it or anything.
My warranty is good for a while longer. My main concern right now is a Playstation 2 that's giving me disc read errors.

What a dumb article.
His first piece of advice is:
"Check the bottom of your console—if it says it was made in Hungary and there is a sticker on top of another with a barcode on it, than you are one of the unlucky ones who’s console is in the same batch as mine. SEND YOUR XBOX IN NOW BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES"
I could see this making sense if we were talking about a batch of hot dogs crawling with e coli bacteria. Then, it would be reasonable to think every one has a problem.
But why would I assume every Xbox in one batch has a problem, and where exactly does the author want all these Xbox owners to send their perfectly-working machines?
********

I've read that there is a little-publicized way of getting Xboxes repaired cheaply: buy Microsoft's warranty after something has gone wrong.
Xbox just died? Buy the 2 year warranty for $50 tomorrow (you can apparently buy it at any time, not just immediately after the console's purchase). Then, call up MS to start the repair process the next day.

Well, electronics, like cars, or any other such complicated materials are prone to have "batches" that are defective due to many reasons but mainly because these Xbox's are built in an assembly fashion. So there is a certain reason, whether bad processing chip or ineffective assembly for that period of time, can harm many boxes over a certain period of time. I am not saying that everyone should send in their Xbox but the "bad batch" explanation is very understandable. Just think of when other products such as toys, home appliances, or cars are recalled.... they usually call for products purchased at a certain place or within a certain period of time. Just my oppinion.

OK I should apologize... some idiot PS2 fan boy at school recently told me the following: the Xbox constantly breaks down and overheats, they are going to discontinue making the Xbox next year because it hasn't sold enough consoles (he told this to me as a fact), and the Xbox constantly crashes. Maybe Josh was really trying to inform us, but that article totally sucks. The chicken little who wrote it can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

They can jab all they want to at us Xbox owners, doesn't bother me one bit.
I worked on a PS2 for a friend yesterday for "Disc Read Error" as his wouldn't read any DVD games or movies. As usual I didn't talk down to him about his purchase. I let him do all the ranting and raving and cussing. His DVD laser was dead.
I used the site below to help me troubleshoot the problem.

Here is a direct quote from one of the members of that site, for those with PS2 "Disc Read Errors":
quote:
If your PS2 suddenly stopped reading DVDs or Cds or both, and you get "disc read error" I know the solution. I had the same problem and my PS2 sat there for almost 2 months cuz I couldnt figure it out and didnt wanna pay $120 to fix it. You need to open the bottom of the PS2 and remove the 2 metal shields. then unscrew the expansion bay on the left and under that there are 2 small silver screw looking things with a black screw in between them. These are the 2 pots that adjust the power at which the laser reads CDs and DVDs. The left one is for cds and right is for dvds. Only adjust the cd one if your ps2 cant read cds and the right one if your ps2 cant read dvds. Adjust both if your ps2 cant read either one. Gently with a small screwdriver, turn them clockwise 1/16 or 1/8 or a circle and try your ps2. If it doesnt work try turning it some more. It worked for me and isnt very hard to do. If you are scared to do it or cant figure it out, I can fix your PS2 for cheap, if it is having this problem.

The only reason I posted this article is to help some X-box owners out. You can take the article as you will, but I did not post this article to bash the X-box. You try and help people out and they get all offended.
