Will a GBC link cable work on a GBA?

As the subject says. I was at Ames and saw GBC link cables for $1.94. I think the connector looks the same, so maybe I can save myself $8 and just use this?

It will work if your going GBA to GBC or GBA to GBA with a GBC game but not GBA to GBA with a GBA game....make sense? I think I confused myself... :)
