PS2 Memory card question
 

What is the best memory card for the PS2? I don't want to have to load memory manager software every time I boot like you do with the Interact memory cards.

Also, are there any devices that work similar to the Dex Drive for the original Playstation?

The best memory card for the PS2 is (surprisingly) the Official PS2 Memory Card made by Sony.

As for the Dex Drive, isn't the ShartPort the same thing?

I'd go with the official Sony card. Yes, it's a little steep at $35, but it's the safest route to go. As joshd said, I think the SharkPort functions just like the Dex Drive for the PS2, but I'm not too sure about that.

Definitely go with the Sony card. However, there is apparently a huge shortage so you may have trouble finding one. I'm glad I've still got about 2.7mb free on my card :)

I've had a Nyko card for the past 3 months and it hasn't given me any problems. IMO Sony doesn't have the highest quality standards so save yourself some money and try this Nyko card.

How can you tell how much room you have left on a memory card?

Go into the browser and select your memory card. It'll say in the upper left corner.

I can't agree with this statement. I don't doubt that your Nyko card is working fine but I've NEVER heard of a Sony brand PS1 or PS2 memory card having problems. I still say get the Sony brand card.

Website says they're on backorder and won't let you add one to the cart. I'll kep an eye on it though.

Nope. It works just like a regular memory card. If you're interested you can probably get one cheap ($20-25) off of Ebay. That's what I did.

Comparing a Sony Memory card to something else(say a Sony TV) is COMPLETELY invalid. It's apples and oranges.

I don't think so. Some companies take product quality more seriously than others. Plus it's not like Sony's videogame department is known for quality products either.

I've seen one of these babies in an Electronics Boutique for $20 used.... Might save on the hassle of ebay.

That's a pretty good deal but you can probably get a new one Ebay for that price or a few dollars more.

BTW, why does everyone here consider Ebay to be such a bad place? I buy and sell on there all the time and I think it's great.

Same here. My Sony cards have never failed on me. I've even had a friend who accidentally left his PS1 memory card in his pants pocket and ran it through the washer.. after he let the card dry out for a couple hours, he was pleased to find out that it still worked -- and it still contained all of his data.

What about a Kemco or Mad Catz memory card? They appear to be less expensive and there are officially licensed by sony. They also do not require any memory manager software.

I had a Mad Catz memory card that just stoped working. It came with a PSX my cousin let me borrow. Needless to say, I was pissed when I lost my save games. Don't risk it, just buy Sony.
