Acclaim wants to advertise on your granddaddy's gravestone
http://www.guardian.co.uk/computerga...667942,00.html
A computer games firm has been accused of pushing back the frontiers of bad taste after it announced that it was seeking to advertise its latest title on gravestones.
Acclaim Entertainment said yesterday that it would pay relatives of the recently bereaved in return for placing small billboards on headstones, and that the offer might "particularly interest poorer families".

I find these other two articles to be equally disturbing:
A computer game in which players are encouraged to form the "most notorious" group of football hooligans in Europe by killing, maiming and destroying their rivals goes on sale today in the UK.

White supremacist groups in the US have been creating and selling racist computer games with titles like "Ethnic Cleansing" and "Shoot the Blacks," according to a report out this week from the Anti-Defamation League.

Yuk, hello loss of respect for Acclaim... Instead, why not just kill a few of their marketing department and put the ads on their gravestones to see how it works then they can release this stupid idea to everyone else.

ick, I don't know whats worse. The utter lack of common sense and disrespect or that they actually thought some sick people might actually look in graveyard and say "whoa cool, i think i'll go play that game!".
I think they've officially gone insane, especially in their justification: "Advertising has changed a lot - you walk down the street and companies are advertising on bins. The fact that people have given us permission to do it makes it legitimate.". I gave no such permission, ads on bins are forced on us. Of course this is only in the UK, still I doubt they'll ever get away with doing it, it'll be stopped before they get a chance (hopefully!). I haven't played any games by acclaim in years anyway.
